Is this GPU upgrade worth while?

I am currently evaluating a graphics card upgrade to tide me over for a year when I plan to replace my X2 4800 based system.

Current card is 7800 GTX (256)

The card I'm looking at is X1950 XTX

Will this card deliver a noticable difference in frame rates / visual quality in games such as F.E.A.R., Oblivion (and anything cool that may crop-up in the meantime) over my current card.

I have a monitor with a 1600*1200 native resolution but have never been able to game satisfactorily at this setting.

BTW I would rather stick with a single card so SLI / Crossfire are out for now.

Thanks

Overclocking the X1900 XT to XTX Speeds is SUPER Easy.

In the ATi Control Panel, Called Catalyst Control Centre there is a section called overdrive.

All you have to do is move some sliders up, Click apply and your done :D

Agree with the above, x1950 is just an x1900 with GDDR4 Ram on it, and if you get the HIS x1900 you get the same cooler to boot, as said clock it to XTX speeds which it only has to fart to reach as the XTX is not that much higher, and you have card which is about 2 frames at best slower than the x1950 XTX, but you saved a wad. :)

That's great - thanks for the advice.

Just back to the original question for a moment...would this "overdrived" X1900 / X1950 actually give me a marked improvement over my 7800GTX?

Thanks

Well, the image quality will be better :)

One of my friends has a 7900 GTX and the X1900 XT Looks much better IMO :)

As for actual performance FPS Wise, i'm not realy to person with the answer sorry :(

The 7900 GT is about the same speed as a 7800 GTX - or faster - and the X1900XTs slaughter them. Looking forward to mine arriving tomorrow...
