Is this graphics card any good?

On the contrary, I think I'm one of the only people in the thread getting the point. The guy is on a very tight budget and will have to stretch it to get a 7600, I think he could care less about eye candy right now.

Again you miss the point

All I see is people intent on telling him that he should care about eye-candy, and being bewildered that he's not as if there won't be anything else in Crysis but eye-candy. Please, enlighten me.

How is he (and me...I agree with him) missing the point? The guy doesn't have much money, and wants to improve his graphics card so that he has the ability to play a game soon to be out, he doesn't mind if it doesn't run full spangly graphics so long as it runs the game in some playable way.

WRT finding a decent AGP graphics card - Leadtek 7600 GT AGP. Paid £126 + delivery for the one I just bought to put in my Dads PC. See Legionaire68's post, they may be available cheaper soon.

I was really surprised how well it ran Oblivion (with HDR), Titan Quest, Company of Heroes demo, Far Cry (with HDR), Prey etc. This is with a cruddy P4 2.4 (@2.8) too. Ok so it won't let you play in very high res or with lots of AA, but if you stick to 1280*1024 max, AF-8X AA-Off, then it'll handle just about anything available today. IMO and I realize this is educated guesswork here, but it will allow you to play Crysis and have it look pretty good.

Basicaly the same as what I was trying get accross about my 6200 being able to play games, you don't need a £500 card to play a new game, £50 will do, and it'll play better the more you spend. :)

If the OP can only get the 6200 256MB then I recon that it'll be fine and he wont need the 7600 really, although obviously there is much more playability with the 7600 than the 6200.
The only real way to know is to wait for the game to be released and tey it. :)

I have just purchased a 6800GT (AGP) for £80 off the MM. I'm not sure on post numbers now but if you can get on MM soon then that would be a good place to find a bargain. Alternatively you could try flea bay for a cheap deal (Although I pesonally hate buying from there).

As for what card I would go for a 6600GT upwards and you should be able to grab one second hand for around £50-60.

I would agree with this, there were some "leaked" minimum system requirements for Crysis not long ago and they stated Geforce 6600/6600GT. They've since disappeared though, as Crytek denied their legitimacy.

You need 250+ posts and to have been on the forums for 90+ days according to the FAQ so it should be possible although luckypapyrussam may have to enable their trust to access the Members Market if they haven't already done so.

A 6800gt is still a huge jump from a 6200 so in AGP terms I'd quite happily recommend it or an X800/X850 series card(apart from the X800se which is basically neutered). Sorry but that is about as helpful as I can get, that is the reason I was asking what socket your CPU was and whether you would therefore require AGP or PCI-E. :)

I just got a 7600 gt agp and as fish99 ses I am shocked at how well it handles oblivion etc. My 9800 pro melted and I kind of felt that I had missed the boat and upgrading to pci exp now is not a good time. Shelling out on a dx9 card with dx10 just round the corner concerns me and conroe is certainly the way to go for me, just would rather wait till vista for a new build. Conroe motherboards should be better then an all...

Hmmmm... yes i can get on the members market.. im just thinking now, it probably would be best to wait for about a month then buy a second and card of there... (AGP), then when i get tired of it, just sell all the bits i have... or maybe even the whole pc to some retard...(no offence to anyone :P) and buy myself a nice new shiny one.... adding some extra money... TBH with you all anyway... i dont have a job at the moment.. sp finding money for thing is really hard... i would pay £80-£110 for a second hand card though...

Whats your thoughts... prices might not be any cheaper in just a month..?

Sam.

EDIT And yes... im not to bothered about graphics because i no they should still look quite nice on low... and i will still have the game when i upgrade my whole pc wont i... so there is no problem with the game looking crap... and im not upgrading just for this game guys... lol just remember that... :P

Anyway i like to play games for the story and the online experiance...

So anyway...

Thanks again... :P

Sam.
