So from the headline to the first half of the article of a healthy adult refusing the vaccine because of suspicions to associating the same belief with that of a mental health sufferer.

Why is this sane persons nonsense being mixed up with the ptsd of an overdose/depression victim as if to give equal weight to the arguments?

One is CT nonsense backed up with callus disregard (if vaccine passports come in they will go to illegal raves instead of legitimate venues) the other is emotional damage from genuine illness and a tiny % of the population.

It feels dishonest to mix them together like this article does.

.what do you think?

I would have liked to see the article make more attempt to separate them rather than one following on in a flow to the other but I don't think it is deliberately dishonest. But I'm not really sure what angle the article is coming from either.

Me too I'm trying digure out if it's trying to justify the former by the later or discredit the latter by the former.

Is SHARNIE MAY CROOKS a real person ? Just askin'.

Regardless of the juxtopostion of both stories, the article seems largely pro normalisation of covid protocols such as testing, and compliance with legal aspects, but also in general anti covid passport.

Who benefits from this article?

I think all news regarding Covid and Vaccines etc has been very dishonest in its portrayal

The one that sticks in my mind is "Hospital beds at 300% capacity" in some Gloucestershire ICU for the height of the pandemic, but when you actually research the figures, the bed capacity had to be raised from 9 to 27, that's not a headline though really is it?

News doesnt appear to be actual investigative news any longer, we are just shocked endless yellow news cycles with the most dishonest opinion pieces portrayed as fact.

This.

Get the clicks or sell the paper.

It's trash 99% you have to take everything you read with a high degree of skepacism. Anything that throws in stats I instantly call shenanigans.

They're both a bit #firstworldproblem ... One can't go clubbing, the other can't go to some pop concerts. I'm not feeling any real sympathy for either frankly.

I think rather than deliberate dishonesty it's more reflective of the overly simplistic style you often get with Newsbeat.

No, it's not dishonest. I don't agree with your insinuation that a person with PTSD/depression isn't sane - did you mean it like that or have I misinterpreted?

It's like you say they switched to using percentages as soon as the raw numbers dropped off, that way they can still scare people with "300% increase in hospitalisations!!11" without revealing the actual figure which is very low.

The reaction to this pandemic has been in large part about scaring people into submission and it's worked well, you've got people who prior to Brexit were calling Boris a Fascist now being a bootlicker to whatever illogical nonsense he proposes. I'd say it's bizarre but it's not really, they don't stand on principle but just believe and do whatever the corporate media say who have flip flopped more than the government.

Well its not some Gloucestershire ICU, Gloucestershire only has 2 main hospitals, Gloucester Royal and Cheltenham General. Between them they went from a capacity to treat 18 ventilated patients pre-covid to 91 and ICU beds rose to 142. This was back in May 2020, you didn't say when this headline was but May was only 3 months in and that is way more than 300%. My cousin is a nurse at Gloucester Royal, she worked in ICU during the worst parts of the pandemic and said it was horrific. She has never experienced anything remotely like it in her 32 years as a nurse.

How does you post equate to those figures I posted above?

I never called Boris a fascist. Just a proven liar who will flip flop his opinion on something if he spots an opportunity to further his political career and will say anything for his own advancement. I haven't taken that fools word on anything to do with covid, this is a man who went to a hospital and shook hands with patients, caught covid and put himself in hospital. We have an idiot as our PM. I like most people listened to the science, listened to the doctors. Fortunately most of the time our elected leaders did too.

The top Tweet is when Trump was pushing vaccines as a way to end lock downs and US DemocRats and corporate media were opposed to vaccines because orange man bad.

The bottom Tweet is now that Saint Joe Biden is MANDATING those very same vaccines.

Does anyone really believe that if Trump had tried to mandate the vaccine in 2020 the corporate media and therefore people like this guy wouldn't have been frothing at the mouth about him being a fascist?

Corporate media have flip flopped constantly, governments have flip flopped constantly and people whose beliefs seem to be "fluid" because all they do is repeat whatever the former say at any given time have flip flopped. Engage your brains and stop acting like parrots to corporate media and governments.

The top Tweet...

You've completely misrepresented the context of both statements, and you've provided the statements for everyone to see in the same post as your misrepresentation. I find it genuinely fascinating how people like yourself become so utterly steeped in confirmation bias.

Your interpretation of those tweets is dishonest.

You're totally right. A friend of mine has a life threatening illness and they keep looking down on me when I suggest some essential oils that will 100% cure them - also micro greens. They are such sheep trusting these people.

I actually get angry when mmj_uk's algorithm kicks out 'corporate media' (I'll accept 'shills', although grudgingly) when he/the AI meant 'woke' or 'sheeple'. It's careless, you know?

It's like: DUDE - I AM LISTENING TO YOUR NARNIA STORY AND IM WIRING YOU THE MONEY AS I READYYOUR TRIPE BUT GODDAMN GIVE ME SOME CONSISTENCY SO THAT THE ANNOYING (is this real) VOICE AT THE BACK OF MY HEAD GOES AWAY AND I CAN JUST ENJOY MONO THINKING AGAIN. ITS BEST.

OK, cool cool.

The article presupposes that the only people objecting to vaccine passports are those who haven't had the jab.

The main argument against vaccine passports is one of civil liberties.

But I'm sure the BBC article is written like that on purpose. It's trying to manipulate people away from being against vaccine passports or else you will be on the same level as the anti-vaxxers.

The exact details of the story I was referencing were off the top of my head, the actual story that was discussed about a year ago was from the link below, the point I made remains the same.

https://www.theguardian.com/artandd...u-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic-photo-essay

"By the middle of April we were running close to 300% of our normal capacity", it was 16 beds to 40.

The 300% figure was used for shock value, the actual figures would not make a clickbait story.

It's like this misleading article as well, no the rail companies aren't concerned for the high street, they're concerned for their profits and instead are trying to do what the government have been doing to protect their landlord friends and guilt people into using shops & services they no longer really need to use out of both neccessity and safety (who wants to be packed into a tin tube for upto an hour while a highly airborne transmissable infectious disease is doing the rounds)

when you see articles that are made up reddit/twitter posts you know journalism is dead and burried..

people post stuff from reddit and twitter like it's actuall real, someone actually said that.... but its just those clickbait images with the text stories like

"I was forced to have a threesome with the best man on my wedding night" but on an image.

you know the ridiculous stuff trolls post or thats just entirely fabricated trying to get clicks...............

journalists are so dumb to get it's all fake.......

everything is so biased these days on purpose, wouldn't trust the news as far as I could throw my monitor.

it';s not reporting or unbiased stories anymore it's just a brainwashing propaganda tool and anyone who doesn't see that is in denail, especially during covid.

Newspapers basically are there to groom people and make them live in fear.

BBC are at it too their foreign journalists, remember that gas attack in syria that never happened with actors .....

as far as covids concerned I'm done seeing it as a threat, had it a second time the other day and just had a blocked nose for a week.
even my retired OAP parents arent that bothered about covid any-more, they wear masks and social distance but they just carry on as normal now.

I think people realise covid life ain't no life, my parents literally isolated for over a year not seeing family etc, they don't have many years left whats the point in living in lockdown

That quote is buried in the middle of the article. You made it sound like it was a click bait headline.

As winter gave way to an unseasonably warm spring, our ICU beds began to fill, slowly at first, with patients with respiratory failure from Covid-19. The first patient was admitted on 9 March but less than three weeks later we had breached our increased capacity within ICU and were forced to ventilate patients in our operating theatres, on anaesthetic machines never designed to ventilate critically ill patients for prolonged periods. Newport was hit with one of the highest infection rates in the UK outside of London. By the middle of April we were running close to 300% of our normal capacity.

There is nothing remotely dishonest or click bait about that. I'm not saying there isn't dishonest journalism out there, our very own PM was sacked for lying in his pieces. Click bait is a stain on true journalism. The only thing dishonest about your example is you using it as an example.
