Is this normal? (Multiple networks)

Hello

My desktop PC is running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. I have a home network comprising of the following

Virgin superhub acting as a modem > router 1 acting as a router and wifi access point > 24 port switch > Router 2 and router 3, both configured as wifi access points only with DHCP disabled.

I've noticed that when my desktop PC is connected to my network via ethernet cable, Windows Vista shows the following in Network and sharing centre

It appears that Windows sees me as being connected to multiple networks although I'm naturally only on one.

I assumed this would have been down to something like the additional routers (acting as WIFI access points only) would have mistakenly had DHCP left on or similar. This however is not the case.

Is this normal and just a "feature" of Vista? Any way to correct it or should I just not bother?? All appears to work fine, just a little annoyance.

Thanks

Mike

Did you change the IP address' of the routers to something on the same subnet as the main one but outside of its DHCP? It might be seeing loads of routers with lots of different IP addresses and be confused.

Something like

Main router is 192.168.0.1
DHCP .2-.199

Put the other routers as .200 .201 .202 for example then it might clean its self up..

That would be my guess anyway.

At the moment it might be something like this

192.168.0.23
192.168.1.34
You get the idea :P

Hi all

Thanks for the replies and sorry for my delay,

Do you have virtualbox or vmware installed?

No, neither of these are installed.

Did you change the IP address' of the routers to something on the same subnet as the main one but outside of its DHCP?

No, I had them set to IP addresses within the main router's DHCP range. I did as you suggested and gave them IPs outside of this range but the problem still persisted

Why the need for so many routers acting as APs?

It's a big house, the router and APs are located to give decent coverage.

Guess I'll just live with the issue, it's no real problem, just an annoyance.

Thanks for your assistance

Mike
