Hi guys,

Just took delivery of my new BFG 8800GTS and it looks damaged too me? I havent had a decent graphics card for years so just wanna be sure before I RMA it!

Why o why cant things just arrive as they should? With this I have now also had 5 factory damaged motherboards and now 1 GFX card, :(

What you reckon?

Thanks :)

My worry is that IF I chose to try and bend it back and it say snapped or the like then I would have zero warrenty or recourse and what if it does bend back ok but looks damaged would that invalidate any future warrenty claims?

Not sure?

Thanks :)

Im not worried about the return costs for postage as the company is responsible for that payment as I found out when I spoke to the Trading Standards office when I had the other mobo probs. (Must stress not by OCUK) :)

My gut says just RMA it as its obviously damaged and when you pay £200 for a single item then it should be all ok!

Thanks for the confirmation that its not my eyes failing me :)

I'll see how I get on with the RMA.

Peace :)

Just out of interest, what state was the box in if you received your card like that?

Upon checking out the box its bashed, ripped and the like, so it looks like its been thru the wars! I didnt really notice this at first as the delivery guy woke me up so it was a scramble to the door, lol, and in the excitement of checking out me new gear I just put the box to one side.

I do appreciate your comments guys but to spend £200 on a GFX card and then to find it bent etc is not my idea of fun, also I dont know what else has been compromised on the PCB etc and unfortunately cant test card until I receive my new PSU.

And as I said earlier, if I did somehow damage it or the kink remains then it could affect any future warrentys as they will blame me!

Peace :)

Just to conclude this thread, I've arranged an RMA, the company are arranging collection on Monday and then deliver a new replacement, so no cost to me, which is how it should be.

Thanks for everyones input, always appreciated :)

Probably gonna get a replacement midweek, also remember in my earlier post I havent yet got my new PSU so waiting a few days isnt gonna kill me, lol ;)

Reading the etailer and BFG's warrenty conditions both state that its void if any physical damage is done to the card, so if they saw the kinks they could refuse it etc....

Anyway, i'm happy so far

Peace :)

Well warranty would not be void if you bent it back because it would not be noticable then.

Well it would if its not completely bent back correctly or somehow I made a hash of it!

Imagine buying a brand new car and its got a dent in the door for example, what would you think? (or in your case willhub, a new bike!) ;)

But I do appreciate all constructive comments

Peace :)

Um,

Just return it under the distance selling regulations

Bloody hell why should you have to RMA when it's clearly a defective item? Just send it back within 7 days for a full refund. You can return for ANY reason, it's the law, jesus.

Thanks for your input but I think you are missing a few points ;)

1) I dont want a refund, I just want a card thats 100% ok
2) With the DSR i am responsible for the shipping costs back the etailer so its not really a FULL refund if you know what I mean
3) As its damaged on delivery and I want a replacement they are collecting it and delivering a new one FREE of charge.

Peace all :)

All that matters that your feel you have done the right thing :) Have they quoted you an RMA turnaround? If so how long?

No turnaround time quoted, but as the RMA and arrangements to pick the card up were all done today I am quietly confident it wont be too long.

The card is being collected Monday between 9am-2pm :)

Ah that’s good :) To quote a time as well bonus :D BFG have a good RMA turnaround, my last graphics card RMA took 2 weeks :( had to use an 8500GT in the meantime. Hope it all works out for you and goes smoothly.

Thanks :)

As the card was damaged on delivery I will be requesting a new one direct from the etailer so hopefully wont be long.

ViRuS2k - Thanks for the grown up and insightful comment

Porta, that was good service from OCUK then, glad it worked out for you.

When I called them the Customer service agent said that they would just RMA it straight away, that too so far is good CS :)

Peace :)

Thanks Chronictank & 8igdave:)

Before I start, I'll finish...this thread really should now just die, the RMA is in place, no cost to me, only a few days and all will be well.

All I wanted at the start of the thread is confirmation on the bend in the metal, not some silly comments! These forums should be a place for all to help each other in a friendly spirit.

If you want to accept a £200 card thats obviously damaged and has maybe used by the couriers as football practice then go ahead but I actually buy my own stuff and thus dont want to waste £200 if I void the warrenty, also out of principle I just dont want a damaged good.

Anyway, thanks to all those who offered me some wisdom and their time to post, most appreciated :)

Peace all :)

If you were to rma that card with a bent peioce of metal say 4 months later due to a technical fault they may turn round and say you caused the damage and thats why its not working even though you got it like that. I think you made the right decision.

Just hope you dont get a problem with city link on the return one ;)

Thats what I was thinking, they could easily blame me and i'd lose my £200!

I think I might buy the lads at my local city link depot a football so that they will use that instead ;)
