Is this normal?

Well today I've installed 2 320gb WD drives (16mb cache/7200rpm sata2) in raid. I've got a 160 as my O/S drive and the raid as storage. I've just ran HDtach on the raid and got mixed results:

Surely I should be getting more consistent speeds? My mainboard drives are from the CD (had the motherboard since easter) and the board is an Abit NV8 with a sata 1 controller. I'm running XP home/SP2.

It looks as if your Raid controller may be a bit rubbish, CPU usage of 11.3% and your random access speeds as well as the average speed also look slightly poor to me. Just from a quick look I'd guess there is something wrong but it is a while since I have used Raid so I can't say for sure.

What stripe size did you use?

Default (maybe 64).

Motherboard is an Abit NV8/nforce 4.
