Hi there,

Basically i have a hdd which is coming close to being full. Is it possible to extend that partition by added another hdd.

I only ask as i have a shared folder which i don't want split in two.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can do that.
Buy a new Hard-disk then use software such as partition magic/expert to change the sizes of partitions so they work out nicely on the 2 drives

What about creating one partition with covers two hard disks?

Maybe using something like JBOD(Just a Bunch Of Disks) then you could but you would need to start from scratch I believe and it offers no data security because you are relying on both drives to continue working(e.g. like Raid0 but with no speed benefit).

My suggestion is the same as unde4d, buy the new hard drive and copy the entire shared folder across to that which will free up space on the existing drive and keep your shared folder on a single disk. This way you avoid faffing around with a pointless spanning of drives and if one drive fails you don't lose everything.

You can do what you want to a point just using XP.

It's possible to mount an NTFS partition as a folder within an existing drive. I suppose it depends on how your existing drive is laid out whether this will give you the flexibility you need.

Alright, I have decided to move the whole of the Shared folder onto the other disk.

How can I share that folder though, because I thought the folder has to be in shared folders to be shared in xp?

Also:

I don't have many IDE cahnnels and by having both disks on the same ide cable, does that slow it down? (The speed of the HDDs)
