just a quick question,

ive got two pc's, one that is connected to the internet and a media center pc that is connected to the other pc via network cable for file transfering, is it possible for the pc i use as a media center to be able to connect to the internet using the cable that connects it to the other pc?

May be possible using whats known as an "ad-hock/ICS" connection, but its a pain in the butt to set up.

much better to feed both pc's direct from the router....assuming your modem is a modem/router and has a spare ethernet port.

If not I would look at buying a router...it makes for a much easier life!

yeah using a netgear router, i can connect both pc's to it, but i currently have the media pc connected to my main pc for file transfering, would i still be able to transfer files between pc's if they were both connected to the router?

yep, just set up the computers as a workgroup (there is a network wizard that will do this) and use a shared folder for file transfers, anything you put in the shared folder will be available to both computers.
