Im thinking about using a load of old parts I have lying about to try and make a HTPC for the front room, nothing flash at all but im bored so was just trying to get a base idea together. I currently have an old 939 mobo, ram and cpu and was going to hook it all up together and run it in a small atx case with a blue ray drive and I was gonna pick up a cheap 9500gt as the graphics card, would this work? Will 939 tech be ok playing blu ray??

I reckon it will be fine, I've got a P4 3.2Ghz 2gb ram and onboard intel grapihcs in the front room running XBMC and that will stream 720p and 1080p blueray rips fine from my nas

Yea the chip is dual core. It runs at 1.8ghz. Would the 9500gt be ok, is it overkill for simply using for blu ray? Any ideas out there. I have 2gb pc 3200 ram, I hazard a guess saying that will be fine, yes?

if i remember the bios on the board is rather bad, no overclocking options at all. i will google the processor now and see if i can get any reviews. I was gonna stick in a cheap 9500gt but ive just seen a cheap gt210 with hdmi so gonna with that.

Got everything apart from graphics. Seen the card for £36 so its worth a punt I think. I havnt got a case as yet either but i will hold back on buying one of them until I see if it works.

do you not have a spare gfx card from yout other pc you can test if the rest of the components are up to the job?
the 9500GT will run HD easily as thats what i was using up until my 9800GTX+

I suppose I could rip out a 275 to test if it works but wouldnt that card hamper the performance of the build I mean surely a GTX 275 would be overkill for it

Just get a cheapo ati card I've got a ati 2400 thats fine for doing blue ray, dependin on how your going to plug it into your tv why not get a ATI 4350 can get them with hdmi for just over £30

agreed, the 9500GT is prob a bit ott, but if its the same sort of price then does give you a bit more flexibility in the future.
