is this ridiculous?

I thought this was a total waste
What are your thought on this?

My friend who games at 1080p has just installed his second 780ti.
Surely one card would max everything out with room to spare?

I would say yes but if I were him I would get another two 1080p monitors and do Eyefinity/Surround gaming :)

I run SLI 780Tis at 1920x1080.

Did not need them but I could not sell my second one, so kept it. Is it needed? No. Is it a waste? Absolutely not. I can lock BF4 at full Ultra with 140% Resolution scaling at 120FPS on a 120Hz panel.

I'll likely be upgrading to one of the new G-SYNC 1440p 120Hz panels when they hit the wild but if you want it and can afford it nothing wrong with having more power than you need.

PS - I overclock the absolute nuts off mine also. POWAAAAAAAAAAAA.

If you only have 1 GPU in your PC, then your PC is unbalanced and the Feng Shui of the case interior is all wrong. You will also find that because you only have the internals anchored by the motherboard standoffs and the PCI slot screws of one GPU, gravitational forces will, over time, cause your motherboard to warp and eventually break.

By simply adding a second graphics card, you add another two PCI slot screws which alters the fulcrum of the forces within the case and ensures that everything in your PC is balanced and so cannot now break. You will also find that the correction of your PC's Feng Shui will account for at least an additional 25% in FPS, and at least a 50% reduction in BSODs.

It's a well known fact that you can increase the effectiveness of a soldier in combat simply by pairing him up with another soldier. GPUs work along the same lines.

GPUs are also highly powered, gorgeous and desirable things. We all know from the world of dating that gorgeous and desirable tends to mean emotional and fragile, which is why a single GPU can often be found quietly crying to itself in the middle of the night.

These are all reasons why I firmly believe that graphics cards should always be used in pairs, and I salute the OPs friend for being sensible enough to forego any kind of logical or fiscal reasoning and get another 780ti to keep his existing one company.

This Sir, reminds me of a song you may have heard.
It's by Affro man. Because I got High:D

Would you rather one leg or two. Me I like two, I walk much better. Will be upgrading myself soon and been thinking about crossfire. I guess ive played with crappy frame rates for so long that I just want to guarantee the best minimum frame rates.
