I wouldnt test it. If it works before you start dismantling i dont see what the big deal is.

Iv seen videos of these exploding through tables lol - although it was a old video its still sunk in my head.

If you sell the mobo and then the buyer says it dosnt work are you really going to say " I tested it before posting and it worked. With no cooler too?". Couldnt you just stick the cooler back on for the 2 minutes you are testing it for? I mean its not ideal but a little safer on the tech surely.

This more the situation of curiosity killing the cat?

Just sit a heatsink on the CPU at least. It doesn't even need to be clipped/screwed on or have thermal paste, just have the base of a reasonably sized heat sink sitting on it. That will cause it to not die straight away... I still wouldn't reeeeally advise it though.
