Building a PC for a friend with a budget of £260. Media creation is the main use of the new spec and l am aware that the budget is too low but l will try to get the best l can for this budget.

I came up with this.

CPU:
AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 2.60GHz (Socket AM3) £79.99

Mobo:
Asus M4A785D-M Pro AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £57.99

RAM:
OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel £39.99

HDD:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £36.98

Optical Drive:
LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.99

It is a bit confusing with the AM2/AM3 mobos. From what l have seen from the specs the above parts are compatible. The AM3 CPU's have a DDR2 memory controller aswell right?

Thanks in advance guys.

I assume you're using the case they have now... why not the optical drive? I'd probably get a new PSU too, depending on what it is. Have a look at some used stuff.

Like the look of that, good build for the money. I assume you got the integrated graphics on purpose? It won't run the newest games now, but stuff from a year ago or more should be ok.

The PSU and the case will be used. The optical drive curently on the PC is quite old and he wanted a new one.

The 4200 will be ok for movie playback.
