Is this the right part to buy? New 2.5" disk

Hi,

I'm looking to expand the disk space in my media server.
This is the motherboard:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z270N-WIFI-rev-10/sp#sp

You can see the server here:

Would this disk work ok next to the existing 2TB?
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seag...28mb-cache-hdd-oem-st4000lm024-hd-37c-se.html

If so, my queries are:

  • Where would I get that metal bracket and screws from to seat it next to the existing one?
  • I'm assuming that power cable currently wrapped up will fit if I clip the cable holder off?
  • Where do I get that black SATA3 cable shown in the last pic?

Is this the right SATA3 cable?

Thanks for any pointers.

Floob.

Looks like OK drive

Any sata 3 /6gbs cable is ok
Just make sure it will be long enough

The metal plate not sure about
Look in ocuk hard drive adapters probably something there will do the job even if not identical to what you already have

Edit why 2.5 drive and not 3.5 drive

You might well find that a 50cm cable will leave you a lot of slack to manage. In such a small case I would look at the 30cm or even the 15cm versions to minimise excess cable. They're cheap enough that it's worth buying one of each size to see which is best, especially if you go for blue rather than black.

If the case is designed to take more than one drive, you might find some extra bits in the box it came in.

Thanks for the pointers.

I've seen this which might do it, but its out of stock.

I may go ahead with buying the disk and a 30cm and 50cm SATA cable, and maybe get a bracket somewhere else?
Maybe something like this:

I guess I went 2.5" to match the existing one, and (in my head only probably) it would be quieter.
There's loads of those drive sled things they're not hard to get
Couple screws maybe couple of washers should do the job
Should be some phanteks ones on ocuk don't know if in stock or not
Bit different but nothing a bit of diy and cable ties etc won't cure
They do a double decker one too for 2 drives

Edit
Plenty of them
Called
PHANTEKS SSD MOUNTING KIT, 1X 2.5 FOR ENTHOO SERIES

I don't think either of those will be suitable as they don't have holes on the bottom that will match the existing brackets. If you're prepared to do some careful measuring and drilling then you can convert one to fit but the chance of finding something suitable off the shelf is low.

Why not measure the existing drive cable to see what length you need?

Thanks - all turning up tomorrow, so hopefully it'll work ok. I may even use the Sabrent to mount both drives in the same spot as the existing one.
