I have a MSI K8N platinum mobo, with Athlon 64 3200+. I have a Raddeon 9550 graphics card, a WD 200gb hd, creative audigy 2 zs.

I am not overclocking or anything at the moment, but someone on another thread suggested I should get a new fan?

Cheers

You need to upload this image into imageshack, just google imageshack

That is far too hot - you should generally be thinking that something it wrong if temps are more than ~50C - not 60C!

What heatsink do you have there? With a decent heatsink and fan, you should be idleing at around 30-33C and maxing out at about 40C probably.

Also what case...

is your room generally warm.. mine is, but i can get the cpu to around 37which is alright.

placement of your case.. i.e. in a tight compartment all blocked off in a desk.. sometimes that can cause heat build up.. lol near a radiator

things like this

it is in a fairly confined space, nothing major. fan is a akasa ak855. and the front one is a sunon something.

it is an evesham computer, with a case like this one in pic, hard to see, sorry.

hmm.. i doubt that case will have cooling in mind...

generally to get good cooling you have to buy individual parts.. like the case and stuff.

what you want is good air flow through the case.. generally 120mm fan at the front bringing air in.. and a 120mm fan at the back taking air out.

if you can get it in a more open space that may help, but at the end of the day to get good cooling you should buy individual parts and build it up

the front fan looks as though it is 80mm.

and there is space for a 120mm fan on the back.

would you advice replacing the fans and cpu cooler?

if so, any particular ones?

cheers

if you have a stock cpu cooler then you could try and replace it.

maybe a gigabyte g power cooler...

and if you can get a 120mm fan at the back then any will do.. i just have an akasa 120mm and its fine.

shame you cant get 120mm at the front.

also try and get a clean airway through your case from front to back.. like if there are any cables cluttered about just try and make it neater if you want/can.

This is all wrong, your cpu is not overheating. That motherboard is known to have a dodgey sensor - get the latest bios and it WILL fix it. Buying a new heatsink/fan will do squat. I had idle temps of about 45 on w/c before I got the new bios - now I sit on 28 with 35 full load.

a stock cpu cooler? On closer inspection.... there is only room at back for an 80/92mm fan, will it make enough difference to bother getting one? the cpu cooler has levers on to release it, so assuming it will be easy to come off?

will that gigabyte one be much better than the one i have? will it be better so i can use the cool n quiet on the amd 64?

cheers for your help

it doesnt matter what cooler you use.. cool and quiet is a process involving the processor itself.

the gpower will be better thatn your stock cooler.. depending on what cooler it is you have now :p

if you cant get 120mm at the back.. dont bother replacing it.

taking the cooler off is simple.. but will be a bit tricky if its your first time...

i have a akasa ak855. last time i updated the bios, the computer wouldnt start, jus started with a black screen and monitor didnt turn on, and evesham came and replaced the mothorboard and graphics card! any reason why that may have happened?

i have bios 1.1, and live update says there is 2.1 available.

no idea.. evesham probably make it so it knacks up when you try and update. did they replace the mobo and gfx card for free since you updated?

doubt they needed to goto them extremes like

id suggest getting a good cpu cooler if it really is bothering you.

lol or save up and buy a new pc... :p

LISTEN TO ME. Yuur cpu is NOT overheating - it's simply your sensor being dodgey! I had the exact same problem, just update the bios.

Must agree with Zefan.

I had an MSI neo board and the core centre software was pretty good.

The readings on yours look wrong.

A CPU fan speed of 3835 rpm an a NB fan of 4115 ?

Your case would be close to lift off !!

Update your BIOS , as suggested.

Cheers,

Mark

ok, last time i did that my computer wouldnt start, would there be a reason for that? I think I may wait till after my exams to do that!

cheers for the suggestions.
