Hi,

I need an external hardisk 160gb+.

The drive needs to be accesable from my xbox 360 via usb, at the same time it also needs to be connected to my router via ethernet so i can use it as a drive wireless from my laptop. I would like access with both the xbox & lappy at any time without any messing about with the hardisk in any way.

I would aslo like the drive to turn its self off when the 360 is turned off or after no use from the lappy after a time period.

Is there anything out there that would satisfy me?

Thanks for any help at all :)

Cheers

Jonny

It's highly unlikely that you'll find a product that can both be a slave to a PC or other device via USB, and at the same time act as a server for sharing files on a LAN. I'd imagine that in such a product there would be sharing/contention problems to solve (e.g. what to do if PC/XBox on USB wants to write block 1234 on the drive and a LAN client writes or deletes the file the block belongs to etc etc etc.) So if such a thing exists, I wouldn't expect it to be either simple or cheap. I certainly don't know of anything like it. That said, if the XBox can access a shared hard drive on the network as a LAN client, via SMB or such, same as other PC clients, then something like the Buffalo Linkstation, *might* work for you. (But, I don't know if the XBox can make use of shared HDD space via a LAN or not, and if so, how.)

What your saying makes sense.

To be honest the xbox is going to be using the drive most of the time, i just wanted a lazy way of copying my music, photos & movies onto the hard drive without having to pull a cable from the xbox and plug a cable into lappy to transfer every time. Maybe thats what i'll have to do.

Thank you for help

Regards
