Guys,
I sent someone a stick of DDR memory through the post but when they received it they said it didnt work.

The person who had received it said it was because I had not wrapped it in anti static material. I did however wrap it up in bubble wrap so it was well packaged. It definately worked when I posted it.

Could this damage the memory by not using an anti static bag.

You wouldn't actually get any static discharge of the bubble wrap would you ? :s
Argue that if its been damaged by static, its him touching it without being earthed, thus causing the discharge into the RAM.

It's quite feasible that the RAM was damaged in the post, especially if it wasn't wrapped in an anti-static bag. It's also perfectly possible the component wasn't handled correctly by it's new owner and he's blaming you.

It's also horrifically common for people to scam each other - after all, given the number of motherboards/graphics cards sent back having been 'broken' by overclocking, is it any surprise that someone would buy a highly specific piece of equipment second-hand to replace their broken one and then return it as damaged? I was ripped off by someone on ebay (but I didn't have any records to prove it) and I now always take extreme precautions when selling stuff second-hand. I always take down serial numbers and send them by e-mail to the buyer before despatch. That way the wrong part cannot come back if it is delivered damaged.

The problem is now, you don't know if they dropped it while they were opening it :(

Make sure you check for any physical damage when you get it back for testing, a drop hard enough to break/damage the RAM should have left a mark.

Let us know how u get on once you get it back, can imagine it being very annoying when some ppl try to blag things like this when there is nothing wrong.

bubble wrap could have shocked it though, always use Anti-static bags as it saves this kind of grief. If the bubble wrap was sliding on itself in the post it could have caused a shock when he opened it, it only takes milli-volts. But because you didnt wrap it correctly you might not have a leg to stand on

it also could still be ok when u get it back, and he does not know what he is doing, it maynot be 100% compaterble with his system
