Is this upgrade worth while?

My PC:

A64 3000+ (754) @2.2GHz (220FSB,x10)
Asus K8V-X mobo
1GB Mushkin Redline RAM
9600XT AGP
Windows XP Pro SP2

Obviuosly it's a bit creaky these days, but I can't afford a full upgrade until later in the year.

Would dropping in one of the AGP X1950 Pro cards be a worthwhile upgrade? Either the 512MB Sapphire or 256MB GeCube. Would I get playable framerates in Oblivion?
Or will the CPU prove to be too much of a bottleneck?

The X1950 is quite a leap up from the 9600XT, so yes.

The only problem is investing money in an AGP card when your next PC upgrade will see you go PCI-E.

I know, but I don't want to be pulling games out of the 4 for £10 pile for the next 6 months.

I'll be stuck with Pippa Funnels Jimkhana or the Sims - Fashion Parade 2008
