Is this write speed right?

I have a Seagate 7200.10 500GB SATA drive and the write speed is 13MB/s?

Is that right for an old drive or should it be more. (I am copying from another drive)

EDIT: Or could it be that I am writing to NTFS in linux?

Should be more, unless it's being accessed by something else as well, or you're copying small files, or the source drive is slow, or the source drive is being accessed by something else as well. Once you've ruled out all of those, and probably some more I forgot about, you can decide whether it's slow or not. :p

And try HDTune.

Well it's not the source drive and I am copying 1GB files. It's only being accessed by the copying I believe. Now gone down to just under 10MB/s

There are all sorts of factors that can affect this such as fragmentation and the speeds may also be misreported. Test the read speed, if that's normal then the write speed will be too.
