Is this x25 slow

Yeah, it doesn't quite look right. Here's my own for comparison.

Sequential speeds aren't far out but random reads / writes are way off spec. What version of the Intel storage drivers you running?

That's a Gen 2 of course but didn't think the difference would be so much to be honest. Intel did improve sequential writes on the G2 with latest firmware but be worth seeing if anyone else running a G1 could post a bench for a better comparison.

Damn I'm slow today...just ocurred to me. You say you're new to this so was it a 2nd hand purchase? Your firmware needs updating for one but could be just needing a secure erase run on the drive to restore peak performance, since it lacks TRIM support. Thing is if you dig around for one of the more thorough SDD comparison charts you'll see the G1 isn't far behind the G2 overall and actually edges ahead in certain scenarios. Linky below for latest firmware (update process won't scrub your data).

yes i did buy 2nd hand did not realise there was a G1 and G2
i did the secure erase before install
Installed the latest drivers from intel

did that and its latest firmware

Just did a test on my 2tb f4 and thats showing read and write at 115 !!!!

And another...

So the drive is not performing at peak but difficult to say why at this stage. Also worth benching a few times to get a representitive result since it will be affected if the drive was being accessed heavily at the time, especially if the OS is on there.

Terry, to give you an idea of what I said above I've just run a couple of benches on the X25-V I have installed on my laptop. Only difference is that the first was run with a few windows open and my email client up. Quite a difference given a relatively light CPU / disk load. So definately think it would be worth running yours again under idle condirions.

Of course these differences in synthetic becnhmarks may not manifest in real use. If you are worried about the drive check the SMART attributes or even run a diagnostic in the Intel SSD Toolbox and see if that throws up anything of concern.

Looks about right for a used state Intel G1 80GB. Latest firmware should help a bit but it'll never match the G2. What chipset are you running on?

well i can take it back to shop where i bought it from.
as this only comes with 1 month warranty (shops)
is it worth waiting for some thing else or try the ocz out

And yes was tested with everything closed no virus checkers and the such like.

Anyone got a ocz :)

Oh yes its in a gigabyte ep45-ud3lr board
