Behind you... Naked!
I am seriously considering doing a Fresh reinstall of Windows.

With my Steam Folder, I have absolutely no issues with any of the games. I just run Steam, soemtimes I just reinstall steam over itself and each game, I just click on it ( or its desktop icon ) and after a quick DirectX check, Im in. This is well sweet and bloody handy when you have nearly 2TB of games ( yeah 99% are utter crud but so what )

The thing is, that I have recently bought and installed the entire Assassins Creed collection and irritatingly, they are using that UPlay thingy.

Will I have to reinstall them or will they be ok if I reinstall?

For what its worth, my Games are on a pair of 2TB WDBlacks in RAID0 and the Install is on a pair of Samsung 850 120GB SSDs in RAID0 so they are physically seperate, and I have done reinstalls but never with uplay.

Hell, I hate uplay so much that the two gam,es I got with it before are Trials Evolution and Trials fusion, and I hate uplay so much that I bought them on steam instead, and even my Batlefield is on uplay and so I dont play that anymore, thats how much I despise uplay ( no reason - I hated steam until only a few years ago )

God, I waffle dont I?

after reinstalling uplay you can tell it to scan a directory for games and that should allow you to just play them again, instead of downloading them.

Why do you hate Uplay so much? Because everyone else bashes it? It's really not that bad nowadays.

It's clunky
Only exists for advertising purposes and their own DRM
You can launch the games from Steam but has to launch UPlay as well at no benefit to the user

I just leave it be and try and forget it exists.

Does everyone else bash it though? I dont know cos Im too busy hatin' it!

Seriously though, when I first came across it, I thought, here is another invasive program that wants to control my software, and to be completely honest with you, it did. when I want to pla ya game, I just want to double click on the icon and in a second or two, I expect to be at least having the game starting up, I dont need to have to log in to yet more rubbish that I paid for. I dont want it and quite frankly, it has stopped me buying dozens upon dozens of games... For example I no longer play Battlefield and I have no intention of EVER buying it ever again, purely because of uplay.

It was the same with Trials Evolution and Trials Fusion. I got Evolution and installed it and was threatened with that goddamned bloody uplay again and I love that game, so when I found it on steam, I bought it on that and Fusion too!

Now admittedly, I hated Steam at first and I have grown to like it, but its now a ver yuseful app to have, mostly because the games in my Windows PC, I can also play on my Windows Laptop, my Linux PC and LinuxLapTop and my hackintosh too, and so thats been fun.

But it absolutely sickens the hell out of me, that half my games also come bundled with junk that quite honestly I dont want or need.

Its like I click on a game, and then steam opens up, but then its a Microsoft game that I somehow need to log in with my xbox account or whatever, and ofcourse my bloody soundcard andmy graphics card has setups for that game, oh and my keyboard profile and my mouse profiles all want to kick start themselves and in teh end, it feels like I need at least a 6Ghz 8 core system with a minimum of 32GB running just to handle solitaire FFS.

Yes of course I am being utterly mental, and I freely admit it, but I just hate software that is not necessary, and uplay is one such piece of shi...oftware that is such a thing.

But yes, I also admit, that when I double click on ASassins Creed, it only quickly popped up and it is NOT invasive as it ws, or as I remember it was so yeah, maybe it will be ok.

I mean... The entire collection of a game that I dont even like, I only got it cos my son used to play it and he was really good too, so I got it in the hope that he and I could have a play on the computer together, but he only told me to bugger off cos hes not gay! - what a swine eh?

Uplay is as clunky as Steam. Just like Steam, it's a DRM..

Here's a blasphemous idea: start those games directly through Uplay and don't bother with Steam.

The irrational hate Uplay or Origin get from people who probably have a million apps clogging up their phones never ceases to amuse me. :)

It's not irrational hate, it's completely reasonable

I have hundreds and hundreds of games in Steam. Ubisoft had their games on the originally but want more money and decided to go it alone with their own format even though they could've left with Steam and kept their customers happy. But like EA, **** the customers, they'll pay whatever.
Steam is FAR from clunky in all of the 10 years I've used it.

If you don't like unnecessary software you could start with not bothering with graphics card profiles, sound profiles, keyboard profiles and mouse profiles...? I run a very lean system and don't bother with any of that crap, for the exact same reason; I hate bloat and mess.

as a client uplay has overtaken origin and is 2nd only to steam

no problems with it except when you exit a game it gives you an ad popup

which i dont like

Steam is not one bit clunky anymore. hasnt been for quite a few years.

The games I have on uplay dont need steam and so why would I need to bother with it?
There are games that are the other way round and they call up uplay, but none of the uplay games call up steam, so I dont understand what you mean?

The hate is certainly NOT irrational. Plus I dont have any games on my phone that requires anything like uplay.
I do however have just over 1.6TB of games in my overly massive steam collection and I am happy to say that my PC is not in the slightest slowed down by it in any way.
I have a desktop Icon for my most used games and the rest are in the steam list for sure and they are all up to date etc.
So if yo uare saying that uplay slows down your system, then thats obviously a problem with uplay, but steam is certainly NOT slowing my system down.

And just for the record, Isaid that I use it on my Linux PC too, and I have been buying any and all games that work on Linux purely for the hell of it, and I have bought hundreds of them. there is no slowdown at all in Linux either.

Oh no, I dont either... Im kind of exaggerating on it a bit.

Although I do run Keyboard profiles, but they are stored in the keyboard and so they dont slow the system down. Im also sure the Mouse profiles are stored in the mouse too, but the software to put them in is of course in the PC.
I know they are stored in the keyboard because I use a KVM with a few PCs and they still work even when I have changed from Windows to Linux... Just Macros and so on.

I did start to mess abotu a while back with various GFX / Audio setups etc, but they are just stupid and completely unnecessary so I stopped wasting my time on them.

Steam is pretty clunky - it distributes and installs DirectX with most game installs regardless of whether or not you have it installed. That's just one example.

Minus games, my Uplay install is 300MB, Steam is 900MB.

I've been using Steam from day one and yes, I'm a champion of it, but it's definitely gotten to be much fatter and slower over the years with extra "features". To say it's much better than everything else is just untrue. They're all just tools; delivery platforms, stores and friends lists. Yes, having everything in multiple places is a pain, but competition is good.

There's little difference between Uplay and Steam in terms of how fast they respond, update etc. Both are similar apps that do similar things, having hundreds and hundreds of games on steam is not an argument. Competition is good for the customers, a steam monopoly in the market would lead to higher prices. In fact, Steam's current dominance is why sales aren't what they used to be. Origin, in example, had great prices for very recent games such as Titanfall2 and Bf1 during the winter sale.

If Steam isn't clunky, nor is Uplay, they are very similar. It doesn't slow your pc, it can be opened directly to run the games, it's a DRM just like Steam so why hate it?

Phone is a completely different story. Besides I hate uplay, though as much as anything I avoid it due to ubisoft's attitude towards gamers, and my phone is very optimised.

not waffle but I dont get what you are on about. Whats with all the reinstalls? Why do you reinstall Steam all the time ? Also your "reinstall" or "reinstall" sentence doesnt make sense either ?

Asking if, when reinstalling Windows, will games installed on a separate drive still work ok.

Seriously, life is too short to direct so much hate towards an "app" that really isnt a problem. Other than the potential to mess up cloud synced saved games I have it installed and never even notice its there. Turn off cloud synced to eliminate any possibility of it messing stuff up and thats it. Once the game is installed you dont even realise its there 99% of the time if you launch it from a desktop shortcut
