Is UPLAY similar to STEAM

not waffle but I dont get what you are on about. Whats with all the reinstalls? Why do you reinstall Steam all the time ? Also your "reinstall" or "reinstall" sentence doesnt make sense either ?

Thats a 3-parter

1.Whats with all the reinstalls.
2.Why do I reinstall Steam all the time?
3.reinstall or reinstall doesnt make sence?

I will answer part 2 and hopefully this will clear up 1 and 3??

Erm, I dont.
What I said, was that in the past, when I have reinstalled Windows, or Linux, I either run STEAM straight off ( which seems to work fine ) and sometimes I reinstall steam just to be sure, but this is only ever done the once after I have reinstalled the Operating system and no other time.

Is this any better?

Seriously, life is too short to direct so much hate towards an "app" that really isnt a problem. Other than the potential to mess up cloud synced saved games I have it installed and never even notice its there. Turn off cloud synced to eliminate any possibility of it messing stuff up and thats it. Once the game is installed you dont even realise its there 99% of the time if you launch it from a desktop shortcut

When I first installed a game that was under uplay, it absolutely WAS a horrendous pile of garbage. Every time I wanted to play the game, I tried to load up the game, but I had to log-in to my uplay account and it NEVER saved it. This is simply not funny and instead, my mate gave me a hookie copy of the game, that came minus uplay.
I played the game laods after that, but when I tried to play my genuine copy, I was always presented with a Log in.

Why the hell should I have to log in just to play a game?

Ok, to be fair, this no longer happens and I no longer have a problem with it like I did, but in the past I certainly did hate it.

I have also said that I had a hatred for steam too, but again, this was in the past.

To be honest I think the issues I had with Steam when that annoyed me, was with the original Half Life, and the time that I started to accept Steam was with Half Life 2 - Just something that I did notice, but then also Steam was by Valve wasnt it at the time?

Steam is pretty clunky - it distributes and installs DirectX with most game installs regardless of whether or not you have it installed. That's just one example.

Bad example.
Almost all games require DirectX and all it does, is make sure that any games that do require it, have it.

Again after reinstalling Windows, even though I have not reinstalled steam or its games, it runs DirectX on the first time I try playing the game, just to make sure, and it never does it after that.
That is a benefit of having DirectX because if not, then none of my games would work until I installed DirectX myself.

Minus games, my Uplay install is 300MB, Steam is 900MB.

Minus the games folder in uplay, mine is 164MB vs 13GB for Steam but just minus the SteamApps folder - erm lol?

Reasons uplay is kinda ****?

*Mobile app almost pointless. Where's the chat? "Offline since" completely wrong.
*Inviting people into games is terrible. When you invite someone it shouldn't suddenly drop their name from the list otherwise you end up spamming someone else an invite when trying to click through quickly.

Otherwise I dont have an issue with it.

You are aware that Steam ONLY distributes the files the developer/publisher tell it to?

The developer/publisher push the DirectX redistributable so the game will work, this has nothing to do with Steam though.

Lets not forget, uPlay was a vehicle for "always on" DRM and that alone is why many will not give it and/or Ubisoft the time of day and with good reason.

Ubisoft burnt a lot of bridges with that stupid maneuver and are still suffering from the "backlash" today as uPlay is considered a joke and the "always on DRM" is a part of its history and why it will always be a joke.

Also, uPlay Steam implementation is a complete joke.

Separate friends lists ands achievements on a platform which already has these baked in. Just means more hassle for a gamer.

They also "add" Steam Ubisoft purchases to your uPlay account (They know you have purchased it legitimately) but try to install it, it opens Steam. Why add them to your account if you cannot play them without Steam?

Such a convoluted mess.

Steam, Uplay, Origin and GOG galaxy are all on my system. I can't hate one more than another.

The only reason Steam could be seen as 'better' is that I have more games on it. In fact I have pretty much ALL my games on it.
If it was the other way round would you think Uplay was better and hate Steam?
"It's so annoying loading a game from Uplay that then forces Steam to open"

I'd rather not have ANY of these third party apps to control my games. Just let me install them and run them from my pc.

Nothing wrong with Steam, Uplay, Origin and GOG. I shop around for the best prices and that's rarely on Steam nowadays. Competition is good.

Recently I decided to play Witcher 3 DLC after hearing all the love. Even during the Steam sale it worked out cheaper to get the GOTY version on GoG rather than buy the season pass/keys for the Steam version of Witcher 3 I already own. I went with GoG. Added a link to the game in Steam. My saves even transfered over from my Steam playthrough.

I actually much prefer Uplay and Origin due to the lack of bloat features. I mean levelling up in Steam, seriously? Who wants that sort of crap?

I don't mind Uplay now, in fact I much prefer the UI over Steam's, although to be fair Steam has far FAR more content to squeeze on the page

Uplay is fine and I like it more than Steam. Is much more light weight and less bloatware.

And is nice to play a game (UBI ones), get an achievement and some bonus points to spend them to the game of your choice.

Good example the big list of stuff they have for the Division especially you can purchase from your achievement points...

Find me something similar with Steam.......

I know is "nothing" but it is just something.

Steam is always on DRM, sure you can argue offline mode but it only works for 20% of people and Valve have never made any promises or attempts to fix it, they like the always on benefits while keeping plausible deniability. :D

If it wasn't for uPlay and Origin you'd be charged out of your backside for any game you wanted too, they're the only things keeping Valve from owning a monopoly and how terrible of a company they've shown themselves to be over the last few years, I'm glad that's not going to happen.

The devs could just as easily tell steam to install X distributable rather than bundling it in the download. Not really difficult at all.

I find that the best thing about Steam, is as I have mentioned previously, that I have it on a number of my systems, and I can simply jump from one to the other and continue with any campaigns from where I left off.

For example, I can play a game on my Windows Desktop PC, and save it on Level Wotevva!, then take my Linux Laptop to my mates gaff, and carry on playing the game from where I left off, all the time, I can ignore my mate who will be sat there wondering why I bothered to come over if I m going play on my Laptop and ignore him.

I will admit that this does not always syncronise perfectly and it hasnt for a short while if I am honest, but that is one of the great things that most of the steam games do.

It also makes sure that any and all my games are all up to date with all their proper patches etc.

If I am playing a game on Steam and my internet drops, the game carries on without issue.

With the Ubisoft DRM, in that situation, the game stopped.

As for Origin and uPlay prices, I do not see what you mean about pricing.

uPlay and Origin charge over the top for all their first party stuff.

Not always; I found The Division season pass was cheapest on Uplay against all other locations (the ones I trust anyway, including a key reseller) They do regular deals and I currently have a "30% off anything" voucher sat waiting to be used, which was a freebie from an email from them recently.
