Is using a HD card and Moniter good for gaming

Hi all
I recently bought a HD6970 and decided to buy a HDMI lead with it to try some gaming in HD is there any setbacks using HD in online gaming like framerates and delays or would you say it is a good thing using a HDMI lead ?

So using HD does't enhance the picture more than VGA and DVI ?
