I kept my XP install just incase, and upon start up it uses a modest 250MB of memory.

Vista however, is not so modest. It uses around 800MB, maybe I'm a bit of a noob but is that right? What can I do to minimize this amount?

Thanks

like the above poster points out: you have the RAM, whats so good about being able to say "i got this amount of ram free!!" when i use windows..

wouldnt you rather it was being used?

Superfetch delibrately attempts to fill as much would-be "free" RAM as possible. It speeds up your system A LOT.

No idea. It won't make much difference initially (may even slow the system down a touch), but give it a week or so to learn your habits and when you go back to XP you'll soon realise just how much slower things like Photoshop load up. Like 20 seconds instead of 3 seconds slower.
