Is Wii 720p?

Only outputs to what the post above says, but Nintendo have said that its capable of higher, just that they didnt see the point in doing so.

Have they? You got a source for that?

Not off the top of my head no, you'll have to take my word for it.
But it doesnt exactely take a leap of faith to belive that it can output that high. If the GC can do 480p without slowdown, then something thats 2times+ faster than a GC can surely handle one step up in res. From a technical standpoint. However, obviously, Nintendo have limited it to 480p, probably to ensure that games are guaranteed high frame rates.

This for me is a Reason i havnt just jumped at one of these systems.
Sorry but HDTV sales are going to be HUGE within the next two years as prices keep falling and i think its a misopertunity for Nintendo.
Its not that graphics make a game better, though to many i suppose they can but with the majority of HDTV's even 480p can look a bit naff.

Obviously it was a design decision and one probably more to do with software development increased costs than making the system equipped with HD output.

Its worse when if you own more than one console and its a 3rd party game cos then its like hell i can have a 720p version with full HD graphics on the X360 yet i miss out on the wii controls. Ultimately this can put 3rd party developers for the system in an awkward position if people prefer the lush graphics on the other console and its not what the wii needs considering the Cube really had a lack of good 3rd party support.

maybe im talking jibberish but i can see 3rd party developers looking at the wii with a view of testing the market to see how sales are rather than being totally commited, of course unless its a wii exclusive title...

I wouldn't mind seeing 720p output as from having played a very small bit of COD3 this morning i'm a bit disappointed in just how jaggy and 'small' it all looks.

I am however getting a component cable on saturday so i'll see how much of a difference that makes (if any), but as for the Wii Sports and Wii Play well you don't need high resolutions what so ever - they look just fine at 480p/576i ...

Still here's hoping Ninty do perhaps someday release an update that allows higher output resolutions - COD would benefit from it for sure.

I'd like the wii to have been HD but I disagree with you, I don't think it will make any difference to its success.

The majority are happy with low bit-rate MP3 and £5 DVD-R's from the market. They will be more than happy with using composite just like they've always done. Even on a tech based forum like this very few people understand the intricacies of the different DVI connections, HDMI, VGA, etc. the mass public don't have a clue.

I'm not too bothered about the jaggies to be completely honest - its the fun had while playing thats more important.

The picture sharpness is what i am after improving as i did notice quite a few times that i couldn't actually make out the text onscreen if it was slightly small - had to squint to read it, so hopefully the component cable should solve that :)

Thats true their will be large numbers of people that are not in the slightest bit interested. The reason such people use crap mp3 and dodgy market Cds/dvds is because their cheap/freely downloaded not so much that they dont care about quality. Cos given the chance if they could have the quality product at the same time/cost then theyed probably more than likely take/want it.

Although its fair to say that the growing generation of youngsters - mid teens - young adults who are all potential owners may be more aware of the lack of HD support means from a visual perspective and 3rd party titles fairing off worse.

People will buy a wii for Nintendo for fun original titles and controls, the multi console owner like myself might just be less excited in getting one, well until the big name games arrive at least. Though for 3rd party games i would persnally ALWAYS take the X360 / PS3 version because of full 5.1 and HDTV over and above the joys of waving my arms around.

Zelda now. Mario next month. Metroid a month later. Melee a month after that. ect;

above the joys of waving my arms around.
You dont have to. Thats a common misconception amongst people, that the Wii is all jumping around, when it can be played just as well in armchair mode as it can in 'jumping around' mode.

Oh yes, a huge improvement in clarity and vibrancy :)

The official cable is also a lot sharper than the Blaze one as well in my experience.
How does the official compare to high street component cables?

You couldn't be any more wrong with the dates for those games, you're very misguided if you think Mario will be out Q1 07.
Enlighten us then, and tell us your source.
Because its funny how 3 of the top online sellers list the games ive said as Q1 07, and one of those three gives the date ranges i put.

Well i cant find the interview exactly, but they stated that Mario might not hit our shelves until as late as xmas 07. It doesnt make good business sense to then to release 3 AAA titles each month, they will be leaving largish gaps between each release and just because a website has the release date down doesn't mean thats a dead cert.
