i have a USB stick with some important data on, personal not work related.

i have misplaced it a couple of times but have managed to find it, luckily, every time - suprisingly i dont work for the government!

I was thinking about encrypting my data with Windows 7 as the ultimate version has this capability or i could buy a USB stick with encryption software.

my problem is i use the USB at work a lot, if i encrypted the data using windows 7 could i access it on my XP machine at work?

the problem i have with software based USB encryption is that us plebs at work dont have 'admin' rights and cannot install some software, i've been told by some colleagues that their encryption software didnt work here.

I simply just want the USB stick to ask for a password when you try to access it (something that should be standard in all windows imho) to stop people easily opening my personal data and that works across all PCs regardless of admin privelages or versions of OS.

anyone know what the best option would be?
