is Windows 7 finally ready for gaming?

you can always dual boot and compare to see if you're losing out. you shouldn't be as win 7 does seem pretty good.
if you're not happy with win 7 then just delete it and you will still have xp and if you are happy then delete xp.

i also was one of those who couldn't get along with vista even after the service packs....it just couldn't compare to xp on the systems we had even though they were a decent spec both with 4gb ram.....but pointless me still banging on about it as win 7 is here now and it's much better.

i just reinstalled win 7 today even though im still dual booting im going to try and move over to win 7 more.....i'm a bit like you that i just can't seem to let go of xp because it has worked so flawlessly.

Just a note:

All statements said about Windows 7 here also apply to Vista.

Indeed they do. Never had a problem with Vista and not had a problem with Win7.

Tbh I only upgraded to W7 because it was so cheap to do so or I would have stayed on Vista, I then flogged my Vista Ultimate retail which virutally paid for the upgrade anyway.

Gaming wise I have seen no performance drop at all, but what I have seen is the far superior memory management that both Vista / W7 bring.

Hmm and if runnign 32bit, 2GB enough, its only for gaming, ill be running nothing bar games and stripping the OS back to its raw bones lol

Why?

If you get a 5800 card there'll be no games out that will test it.
