is Windows 7 finally ready for gaming?

Hmm i heard rumours MS has given out 32bit keys only on the discounted education one... but no harm in trying.

So the conclusion is, their would be not that much drop in frame rate?

Im pairing it up with core i5 and prob 4gb of budget ram now
There will be basically NO drop in frame rate.

You can still run stuff in 32bit in 64bit.
There is NO reason not to.

I think Vista scourned me lol....

Ill have to see if the rumours of education keys locking you out of 64bit versions.

Vista is actually quite fine since SP2 - it's just that people still think it's bad when it actually isn't.

ive only just started belivieng in windows 7

I take it 4gb under 64bit is fine? I only have a dual channel controller on the i5 to play with

i have been using win 7 since the rtm and it was very very good for gaming then,i dont even think my pc has crashed once tbh

Windows 7 is fine for gaming as was Vista even before the service packs (unlike XP which was a nightmare on release). Also your getting an i5 and worrying about Windows 7 being slow for gaming, I'm on a Core 2 and an ancient GFX card yet can still play most games ok.

I ran vista from when it first arrived, and I moved to windows 7 when it arrived, both on 64 bit.

I don't recall the last time I experienced game issues.

Same, I never noticed a difference/problem moving from XP to Vista x64
I never saw what all the Vista hate was about, it's always been great

Win7 is better, why limit yourself to old tech?

Your gaining a modern OS with good memory management unlike XPs wastefull management combined with superfetch which improves application load times, increased security with UAC and Internet Explorers protected mode, a much nicer modern UI which is also more user friendly when you get used to it.

Why are you considering moving at all?

Is it just because you have a disc?
If you're perfectly happy with the outdated OS, then use it again, just make sure you fully patch it prior to joining to the internet.

Threads a complete waste of time, your questions were answered one page 1. Repeating them won't make any difference, nor will a wagon of anti-7 fanbois be jumping on the thread to help you. They are few in number and positively endangered.

neither did i, i never understood what all the fuss was about vista allways worked flawless for me.... as stated by every one else dont be a tool and get windows 7 64bit... simples

Win7 is fine for gaming. I saw the latest Steam Hardware Survey the other day - 23% of Steam users are on Win7, which is quite impressive considering that it's only been out for three months. What's more, 15% are on 64-bit Win7.

It's possible that 7 is slightly slower than XP in some games. The difference is going to be on the order of a couple of FPS - nothing that you're realistically going to notice. It's well worth having the newer OS for the DX10/11 support and for all the other features, vastly better memory management, etc. XP is pretty long in the tooth now!
