Is Windows 7 really that good?

Nothing wrong with XP
Its older than the hills, but its a tried and tested OS that works and works well.

If its a choice between XP and Win7 then its a given that you go with Win7 EVERY TIME with no exceptions, but if XP works for you then dont let anyone tell you that Win7 will change your life because it proabsbly wont.

Its a similar thing with Vista.

I tried and I tried to go to Vista and for almost a year I failed to get it to run for more than a few weeks before it would trash itself and I would go back to XP, and irritatingly I got Win7 before Vista was sorted out and now Vista works great, so any and all issues with that have now long gone.

But Win7 is almost definitely Vista with a few sparkles.

When I say a few, I do of course man that Win7 is a completely re-written O/S, its half the size of Vista and is EVERYTHING Vista should have been.

That said, while many say that Win7 is faster than vista and so on, its just not quite fair... Since SP2 Vista is every bit as reliable and quick as Win7

Wow, excellent feedback guys. Really appreciate it. Definitely convinced now. :) Upgrade plan was fairly straightforward at first. Thought I go for Sandy Bridge CPU, mobo and mem. Then realised I need Win 7. Then I realised need a new SATA DVD as the P67 boards I'm eyeing up don't have IDE. Then figured I might as well go for an aftermarket cooler. Damn. lol. May just buy Win 7 now and just get a feel for it using the 32 bit version and then install 64 bit version when I finally order and build new PC with the new components.

Just to ask OP, you're "currently on Win XP and it's been brilliant so far." how long have you been Using XP? the way you phrased that makes it sound like you've only just upgraded from Windows 2000.
XP's only been out nine years :p
Haha, didn't word it to well there but been using Win XP for about 4/5 years iirc and Win 2000 Pro before that.

Why bother?

Why the hell they ever bothered to waste time on the 2Bit I will never know.

Ok, I do know, but I just wont accept.

Stuff 64Bit on there and drop any thoughts of 32Bit right now.
