Is windows 7, windows 7 for a reason?

No Windows 7 is NT6.1 and some using Vista core kernel cos when Vista was released that was caused problems with hardware support as Windows 7 seem to be sort out the problems (Vista SP1/SP2 seem already sorted out) but W7 also add up some features and redesigned like taskbar, etc.. so W7 still using NT 6.1 not NT 7

so Vista/W7 look same some features but just some change in W7.. so find out when it come out and then next OS will be Windows 8 by between 2013-2014 or later --- Windows 7 will be last one for 32bits and still keep using 64 and next OS will be x64 only as MS ditch 32bits OS when it come out from 2013 or later.

Quite possibly, although there was a fake Windows 97 out there, which was really a jazzed up 95 IIRC, but I know I fell for it enough to make me do an F&R.

Anyway.

One more normal question Id like to know the answer to...

Why the hell are they still bothering with 32Bit?

When was the last 32Bit CPU made?

Does anyone here actually use a 32Bit CPU anymore?

Unfortunatly because lots of compaines still have 32 bit chips, they wont make it 64 bit only until pretty much everyone has the chips.

The sooner they can do it the better, with any luck by the time Windows 8 hits..

I suppose, My laptops are also 32Bit, but there surely is no excuse for it.

As for Windows 8... Is that going to be NT7 or still 6.x?

any older PC or Laptop with 32bits OS will have to use Vista or WIn 7 until people buy new one to use 64bits for next Windows 8 that will be 64bits only -- it wont be ready until after 2013 or later -- it not yet to start development once Win 7 is release.

Microsoft decided not to use 32bits for next OS after Windows 7 so dont know which one the Winodws 8 will be NT 7 or leap over to NT 8... it too early to say.

I'm a bit disappointed that they haven't made it 64bit only, hopefully though device manufacturers wont see us a 2nd class citizens when it comes to driver support.

1/ Windows 95
2/ Windows 98
3/ Windows ME
4/ Windows 2000
5/ Windows xp
6/ Windows Vista
7/ Windows 7

So where does Windows 3.1 etc go then - and why does ME and 2000 have seperate numbers, while they were very different, they are the same generation really, with Me aimed at home, and 2000 at "professional"

To be fair, most NON 64bit systems cannot run Vista that well anyway, AMD have had 64bit support in all their chips for ages, and so have intel since the move to C2D.
