I have a shared directory e:\shared on my desktop. I've just played around with Ubuntu and when I accessed my LAN I could see even root directory on c:\ on my desktop

Going to keep an eye on this thread squiffy. I'm looking to set up a Linux box over the summer and install Ubuntu. I want to be able to share files between the Windows and Linux OS' so I might bug you for help. :D

Just to spoil the surprise for you mate you can indeed share files between Windows and Linux. Have played with linux a fair bit myself (always ended up with windows though lol). But just yesterday I used a Kubuntu live CD to rescue files from my lappy and pump them across to my Desktop. Worked seamlessly after a little bit of command line configuring :)).

Google for 'Samba' and you should find everything you need to know.
