Is your company any closer to supporting the iPhone with Corporate email?

All being well the go ahead for the install of the dreaded B word should be signed off this week then we can start sorting that out, great.

Although not a big place so shouldn't be too bad.

Did anyone else see the article about the iphone tracking/remote wipe? Apparently you can just disable it from the handset! Oh dear.....

A friend and I were discussing this, and what would happen in a situation that a user illegally downloaded music / film / some form of content, and put this on the iPhone?

Exactly the same as a user that did it on a WM (or BB) device I assume. What's the difference with the iPhone?

Well after a couple of years of using BES, it looks like the bosses are ditching their Gooseberries for iPhones and I'm going to be tasked with hooking them up to Exchange 2003.

I have not the first clue about iPhones and connecting them to Exchange. Can someone point me at any decent guides to doing so? Tried reading through the thread and most of the discussion seems to be on the relative merits of the competing technologies rather than configuration.

Not tried it myself but the underlying technology is activesync, so the first step is to get that set up - theres loads of guides for that. Just a case of getting it published, ISA server is good for this and make sure you have a decent SSL cert in place, god knows if you can install untrusted ones on iphones.
After that i'm sure the setup on the phone is the same as nokia/winmo devices - server name, username, password and domain. Only as its an iphone, that setup will be shinier than anything else

SSL certs are where I start having problems - tried setting something similar up years ago with WinMO devices for someone else and couldn't get it to work.

Do I need to purchase a cert from a recognised source or can I create one myself with Windows Server's own certification authority?

With WinMo you can create your own but you need to install it on each device manually. Dont know if this is possible with iPhones as I've never seen an "SSL Certificates" section in iTunes ;)

You can buy one from as little as £65 per year or you can use your own CA. However, you will need to import the certificate on to the iPhone. Mind you it still works if you dont import it, just moans about the certificate not being vaild.

There is a application you can use to import this on to the phone, its called iPhone Configuration Utility.

That's our issue with remote wipe not being good enough, it's the time between the device going awol and the wipe.

If the contents are encrypted it takes the urgency off a bit as the data is protected.

Id say the remote wipe is pretty good. Ive tryed and tested it with a iPhone and i needed to reimage the iPhone to get it to work again lol.... I wasnt expecting that. :D

Id use that method on a normal Windows based phone

However, ive purchased a certifaicate from a trusted root. So i dont have the hassle of this with the smart phones or OWA etc...

Which CA did you purchase from, out of interest? Also, I presume this cert has to be installed on the Exchange server?
