Rust is heavier than steel (there's additional oxygen), it's the holes left behind that reduce the weight.

This. Anyone that says they've never seen unpainted steel inside a car hasn't been looking very hard e.g. most of the structure under dashboards is unpainted.
There’s no unpainted/uncontested metal in that area or any area I’ve noticed on my Duster.
Somewhat concerning when a budget car made in Romania from mainly Renault parts is built to a highly quality standard than a Tesla.
