Well Russia is certainly bombing 'our' rebels (I don't know what they're called either) and civilian populations in support of Assad, I've not seen much evidence that they're making more than a token effort to bomb IS though.

Yea, it's why I didn't call them the 'moderate rebels' which was laughably their initial name ascribed by the media.

Thing is I suppose throughout history, it's always been the enemy of your enemy is your 'friend' so we have armed many dubious groups to further our own causes, just in this case the line seemed far to blurred to know who was who.

Russia is supporting Assad against whomever is the biggest threat to the Assad regime. This probably changes on an hourly basis given all the factions involved.

Shouldn't have attacked Israel then should they? Generally speaking I'm all in favour of finishing wars that you didn't start. I was going to ask what this has to do with the Islamic State, but then I remembered that Islamic terrorist organisation Hezbollah is fighting alongside Assad's forces with support from Russia.

Nice of you to gloss over the fact that Israel was created by Zionist Terrorist groups. They invaded first, stole land and still continue to oppress now - decades later. What surprises me about that news article is that the UK is standing in complete defiance against the rest of the world just so it can keep being the US's poodle.

What it actually shows is that the rest of the world are prepared for peace - it's the US, UK and Israel who don't want peace! Just imagine what would happen to Daesh, ISIL or whatever you want to call them today if the middle east united against them.

But I guess both the US and UK would suffer greatly economically - they won't be able to sell weapons anymore - just like Israel - all export their weapons to these countries, groups and more. If anyone is making a profit from these wars its us!

We give with one hand (here take a couple of million in aid) but take a gazillion with the other hand selling weapons. Conflict is only an interest of the war machine.

However I need a history lesson in how Israel came about.
It seemed that after WWII the West decided that Jews needed to live somewhere so they invented a Country and kicked everybody else out.
I'm probably completely wrong though.

Basically at the time the area was under British rule. Nato came up with a plan to resettle some of the Jewish diaspora there. Basically creating the state of Israel in a sparsely populated area. They set limits to immigration which the Arabs found too high, the Jews too low.
There was then a militant/terrorist campaign by Jewish factions for full independence to allow all Jews to move there.

Thank you but I am well aware of history tyvm. Believe it or not I used to be quite sympathetic to the Palestinian cause however after seeing the terrible results of the Arab Spring, I'm starting to think that perhaps it's better that Isreal keeps them in check. Anyway, the point is that if you wanna fight then nothing is stopping you, but don't be surprised if the other side fights back and stomps you - you'd better make sure you can win before you start.

The British Mandate in Palestine was due to expire in 1948. Both Arab and Jews were against our occupation there, and often revolted using terrorist tactics, and that only got worse as 1948 approached.

There was a UN sponsored plan to allow Arab and Jew to live side-by-side after Britain left, however, neither side were very interested but the Jews were better prepared.

The rest is history.
