Hello folks,

I am in need of some advice regarding a new ISP at my new address. I have been with Be since the very beginning (Oct 2005) but due to lack of capacity at the new exchange, I am unable to stay with them.

So what I need from my new ISP is:

20MB+ Connection
Unlimited Downloads
No traffic shaping etc
Minimal downtime/High reliability

I am unable to receive Virgin Media, even though its a new build right in the heart of Canary Wharf.

I have used Samknows to see what is available but I wanted others opinions on which ISP is best.

A bit of SamKnows info:

The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)

You are approximately 1.80km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

My isp Titanadsl has an unlimited LLU plan thats has no port blocking/ throttling and i belive they have a free activation promo on at the moment which i missed out on.

O2/Be LLU, end of discussion really unless you're prepared to fork out £80 a month for someone like Zen.

Sky would also be worth considering if you're going to be getting a TV package from them.

Don't forget to check out the sites like QuidCo which are probably offering sign up incentives and cashback deals for O2/Be.

Cheers for the suggestion sid-180, I had a look at their web site and they seem quite competitive. Going to give them a call later as I need a block of 16 static IPs.

wij, I am unable to migrate my existing Be contract to the new house as there is no spare capacity at the exchange. I have considered sky but do they have a soft limit on their unlimited package?

Not that I'm aware of, though if you need a block of public IP's they wont provide that for you anyway so it's a moot point.

A lot of the old Enta resellers are now selling C&W's LLU service which seems to be OK at the moment.

Ah, so sky is definitely out then.

C&W = Cable & Wireless?

Titan are really just an Enta/C&W reseller and, given both their spamming on here and threads about them on Thinkbroadband, look extremely dodgy.

You're probably going to have to go with some LLU operator if you want an unlimited service though.

Might be worth looking at Easynet, they provide Skys LLU backhaul and generally sell connections to businesses so they might be able to provide you with a block of IP's and the sort of connection you're after - though expect to pay a fair bit more than you would going via Sky :)

Cheers for the heads up tolien. They haven't responded to my e-mail yet regarding availability. Not very impressed so far so going to avoid them.

wij, I have sent a e-mail to Easynet. They can provide from ADSL 8MB upto their EtherStream product. My only concern is they dont seem to provide ADSL2+.

Might be worth just giving them a call as I'm fairly certain they can, Etherstream is a leased line style product so probably not what you're after ;)

Star might also be worth a look, not had any experience of them personally but they have come highly recommended to me on a couple of occasions as an alternative to my usual choice of provider.

They do ADSL2+ stuff and I'm sure they could provide a subnet for you if you ask for it.

There prices are more in line with Zen though than a consumer orientated provider.

Just filled in the enquiry form. They are well within budget and seem pretty reasonable. The star next to their FUP raised an eyebrow though.

Appreciate your help m8 :)

EDIT What are Pipex Business broadband like?

Final question guys, what is Sky LLU like? We are having Sky+ HD at the new property and it seems they provide the 20MB service free.

Is there a "soft" fair usage cap?
