my isp BT Business is throttling my Downloads one minute its downloading near top speed then is drops to hardly nothing then up again ? i am currently being capped at peak hours ,but even after 12 midnight my speeds are still not what they should be and are never steady and consistent does this happen to most broadband users nowadays is there any way to stop the throttling or improve it? would a running a ethenet cable instead of using wireless help ?

i have just had my contact cancelled with BT Business had enough of there constant throttling. lol however im getting connected to virgin media on a 20mb cable connection next friday and ive read so so many complaints on here about VM oh dear what have i done?. surely it cant be any worse that my 200-250kbs and constant capping 6-12 at 50kbs that i have with Bt Business can it ?

Don't forget that Virgin have a good 26% of the ISP market share. It can only be expected that with such a large customer base, there will be a greater number of complaints. This is only a general assumption of course, but I think it's safe to say that the majority of Virgin customers are at least satisfied with their service, even if it is not perfect. And either way, isn't their a 30-day cooling off period during which you can cancel the contract if needs be?

Find out if your in a Be Internet area and move to them. no caps no throt' etc 24mbit down/1mb up if your line runs to exchange with short distance

to be honest even if virgin was pap I'd still want them over BT ADSL, sadly I wish cable was in my area not just 2 mile down the road :D I'd say youve done it right going to VM 20mb with caps is better than upto 8mb with caps as bad as BT.

I left BT when they started to mangle my line and saying there was fault with the line & even when they'd fixed it they made things worse, alternative to BT is anyone one on LLU apart from cpw that is & an enta supplier :D

thtas what i thought as long as i obey by there download laws and download no more than 3gb a day during peak hours my connection wont be affected unlike my bt business connection that has been constanstly capped and throttled for the last 6 months and cable is way way ahead of ADSL and having 20mb to download after peak times 12midnight suites me fine

ive had issues with virgin media traffic shaping of an evening for weeks and weeks.

I rang up technical support this evening to be told oh theres an issue in your area it will be back to normal in a few days.......

Oh REALLY!!

So why is it during the daytime i get 18 - 19mb constant then as soon as it hits 4pm it goes down to 3mb

Oh its the technical issue sir the guy on the phone says.

I dont thinkso i said its been like it for weeks care to explain where my 15mb is disappearing to of an evening.

Its just excuse after excuse they wont admit that they traffic shape since virgin media took over.

Id avoid
