Hey All

I am having major problemos with my custom made computer and ready to go ATI if i dont get this working. Here is the problem.

Lets start off with the spec of my comp.

Coolermaster HAF 932
Asus Striker ii Extreme 790i
Yorkfield Q9450 2.66MHZ
4gb DDR 3 1800MHZ Corsair Dominator GT
1 X XfX Geforce GTX 285 1gb Overclockers Edition
1 x 500gb HDD
2 X 750gb HDD
DVD Writer
Blu Ray Reader
Windows 7 32 Bit

My Problem is, no matter what game I try to play or if i run a 3D Mark 06 Benchmarking tool, it doesnt allow me to do it, it will go to the full screen then it freezes, returns back to the desktop and I get an error message saying "Your Nvidia driver has stopped responding and has now successfully recovered".

I have tried downloading ALL the different versions of this driver off Nvidia including there Beta version but can't seem to get this bugger working.
I have tried lowering my settings in the gaming but nothing is working.

This issue only happens when I am trying to put a game on OR mainly when I am youtube putting a video on full screen (not always but frequent to happen) and randomly when I use my computer (doesn't happen often but it does happen). The main 3 games I am trying to play is FAR CRY 2 (Came with my graphics card) COD MW 2 & CRYSIS.

Anyone have any idea of how to resolve this issue! Ive had COD MW 2 for 2 weeks now and tempted to just sell the bugger now!

Cheers

I had 2 x 8800 GTX cards, then i upgraded to this card and was planning to do a tri SLI GTX 285! But if i can't get 1 working properly, theres no point for the big setup.

Could it be issues with the MB to the graphics card -

Also noticed - Direct 9 games work, but not so good Direct 10 games... so compatability..

Here we go, now strangley enough, i found direct x 9 and 11 but not 10, it has installed the direct x 11, would that make a big impact on my graphics card not working?

I have just discovered that windows 7 as standard installs direct x 11, so therefor I have no way of uninstalling it! sheesh, this is silly. :(

Yh i will give it a go now - I have updated this before minus the bios the asus site themselves say i have the most up-to-date bios at the moment.

I just think this is all a pain, surely when you build a comp from scratch you shouldn't encounter problems like this?

Like another funny thing is I am unable to go to 64bit Windows 7 as it says it is incompatable. I think i may have a dodgy MB to be honest.

Shedman - i be truthful this machine has only recently been freshly installed when i got a new graphics card and when the games wasn't working, then i checked the card.

All the latest Direct X and NVIDIA drivers are in this baby. :(

Hey ppl, sorry for the delay.. OK so heres what I got.

my graphics card is XFX nVidia GeForce GTX 285 xXx Edition 1GB GDDR3
The PSU is 1000W iCute Modular ATX Quad VGA Power Supply

I will give the riva tuner or ntune a go and see what happens, to be honest, if I get it working, id be happy to leave it as it is, i just want to get this to work for gaming. Be honest though, if it does work, i'd be dissapointed for spending that money for a good gfx card thats supposed to be factory overclocked.

Will let you know how it goes coupe69, and rambo (damo) respect for the info! thanks for all the help ppl. :o)

You reckon that could be it, the PSU... I have tried everything else mentioned above, when i downclocked the GFX card - it started to stabilise somewhat but still wouldnt allow me to play the game.

I used drivercleaner, it did the job with uninstalling ALL NVIDIA products and I was able to re-install it again. So from my personal experience I haven't had any problems.

I have been told on another forum to try a whole load of options - basically to uninstall everything to do with NVIDIA via the control panel, then the registry, delete any key files that windows keep on here to do with NVIDIA, delete the folders manually in the programme files. reboot. then re-apply everything and it should all work out!

So going to give this a go later on tonight, if it fails me now, i think i'll try putting my gfx card in another computer and see what happens...

If i was you, putting a different GPU in to see if it works would be the first thing to do...

Then you know for sure it is your card that is causing the problem...

Yeah I'll give it a go, see what happens. pretty frustration, a newly built computer and its got problems like this, is this a common thing?

Be honest, I bought the PSU as I was told it would handle my GTX 285 without a problem and I thought for 100 quid you can't go wrong really (or so i thought). Everything else in my PC is pretty much high spec and to be honest, I do want to change my PSU so that I can match it with the rest of my PC components. I am tempted to get the Corsair 1000W.

I can only let you know how im getting along in a couple of days when i find someones PC I can do a quick swap or buy a cheap graphics cards to test it out perhaps?..

I really did overlook the PSU, but then again, I would have expected it to work seeing as it is 1000w but now understand that it doesnt mean it will draw 1000w from it.

Im just looking for a good PSU to buy anyway and the corsair keeps sticking out at the moment. I am planning to go definently 2 possably 3 sli with the GTX 285 if it works so do plan to get a good PSU.

Any reccomendations on one?

I think i will buy a used gfx card, small cheap one and try it out and see what happens with that as well unless i can borrow one.

Thanks, would 1000w be too much for 2 GTX 285?

I can't remember how much I went down, but I put it with Rivatuner and linked the core with the clock and went to stock then went down by 12 and 12 again.

It did get better but I can see it jitter as the graphics became more intense (tried the 3D Mark 06). But it got further and further into the benchmarking the lower I went down.

Possably does sound like PSU issue. I wouldn't lose either way if i purchased a new one anyway because I need a new 1...

To be honest, this is the first "gaming" PC i have built, other than that I use the PS3 for gaming but i've had to cut bak on that as my old man controls the TV downstairs.

I just bought a DELL SP2309W and the maximum res this goes up to is 2048 x 1152 - so i would like to try and use it to its maximum potential. not sure if thats going about overboard or not.. But if its possable why not... :o)

I was debating about getting the ATI setup BUT at the time I had all the kit for the Nvidia setup and decided to stick with it. If I did got to ATI, it means I got to buy a new MB (which means I would look for the dual SLI or CROSSFIRE compatability MB) and re-building it again, which i don't mind but really do not want to spend more money on getting new parts (well gfx card and motherboard).

Theres not many games out which are DX 11 at the moment so i'd rather wait for that to come out, and my CPU is only a Q9450 (which for me is good enough) but eventually i do want to build an I7 setup depending on if I really need it.

My Comp at the mo is working a treat for what I need it for except the gaming side. which suks really. lol..
