This is one of the most useless pieces of hardware I've ever had to install. Trying to add a PCI firewire card as I don't have any firewire ports at the moment and Windows XP should be able to install this automatically, or so I thought and have read.

It can't install it, the supplied cd is useless and crashes my computer (and only contains useless software) and I can't find any drivers for it on the web.

Am currently trying Windows Update but is there any other suggestions people have?

what do you mean when it crashes your computer ? what exactly does it do ?

do you see the device in device manager ? even if it has a yellow "!" next to it ?

Does windows even detect that ANY new hardware has been installed ?

When I try and open the cd from my computer, it can be fickle about whether it wants to open, only contains 3rd party software only anyway.

It's listed in Device Manager and when inserted into a PCI slot is does try to install it but can't find any drivers for it etc.

strange....im pretty sure firewire cards don't need drivers.

when it prompts you for the driver, have you tried pointing it at the cd, to let it scan the whole disc to see if it can find it ?

whats the make/model of the card ?
