Issue with overclock or hardware?

I attempted my first over clock on my old gaming rig at the weekend.

i5467k with a raijintek dual fan cooler (barely fits in the case the fans are that big)
on an old z97 d3h gigabyte MB

After a few hours of playing around and resetting my cosmos I found it stable at 4.3 with a set voltage of 1.3 ran prime 95 for well over an hour and a half with 0 issues.

Turned on today and the bus speed was bouncing from around 22hz to 99hz and the clock speeds on all 4 cores where doing the same.

I have just set gone in to bios and dropped the over clock to 4.2 and all now seems fine, is this a sign of failing hardware given its age?

After dropping the clock speeds to 4.2 the bus is firmly set at 99.98hz and the clocks are all now stable

That's certainly starting be older hardware and something could be tiring.
As long shot could try changing "BIOS" battery, though don't think lowering clocks would help to symptoms caused by that.

I have lowered the over clock and its stable.now, is it worth taking the overclock off until I get a new system ?

after lowering I ran prime 95 with no issues and played csgo bone stop for a few hours (I know this is a very un taxing game)
