Hey all,

i placed an order for the zotac gaming 3080 amp holo and was excited to receive it the other day.

card work great for 1 day before it started having some issues. firstly the image on my duel monitors started flickering and breaking up before both monitors (1dp 1hdmi) cut to black and stayed. This usually happens it appears after about 20 minutes of any kind of use but a little quicker perhaps when running a game or putting any load on the card.

i also notice since installing it odd things happening with rgb coming from the rgb header on the mobo. would start blinking, change colour etc for no reason.

the video below shows it crashing when attempting to load into a game of Apex

my set up is as follows.

Gigabyte z390m gaming MoBo
i9-9900k cpu cooled well by a kraken aio cooler
32gb corsair ram (i belive its 3400mhz)
corsair tx850m PSU

if theres anything else anyone would like to know about it to help suggest a possible fix ill do my best to get back to you as fast as i can.

i should also say ive run ddu, installed fesh drivers, checked all connections, updated mobo bios etc also.

it does yes. and no matter what dp i use from the back of the card. my display port cable has been changed also to determin it wasnt that at fault

i will also add that when i first installed it i ran benchmark as i usually do with a new gpu. i noticed it says my card is readin 12gb vram altho it has 10 and and is named engineers sample.

apparently im dumb and cant upload a pic of the benchmark results for the card

Those GPU temps look fine.
yeah and more indepth theres no crazy issues going on with power draw or anything i can tell before crashing unless its a split second thing and i cant see it happening due to screen flickering on and off.

i asked a friend what he thought and he suggested it might be poorly soldered or have bad pathways or something like that. Im not super experianced pc guy but got a good 4/5 years and 3/4 systems under my belt at this point. ive had driver issues and such with my old 2070 super but nothing like shown in original video so was a little worried and thought id check in before possibly asking for a refund or replacement

So it's a direct connection with two 8 pin cables then i can't see it being a power issue as corsair PSU are decent and 850w is more than enough.

Is there a local computer shop you could ask to test it ? other than that i would ask for a replacement.
non that wouldnt charge me for testing it.

i believe my psu to be ok (obviously cant be 100%) but it is pretty much brand new and fitted at the same time as the 3080. obviously the 3080 draws more power then the 2070 super im using in the system at the min but the psu is still in the system and has had zero issues after a few hours gaming, a few hours editing and rendering vids etc. again im not exactly knowledgeable about psus so much but id expect if it was at fault it would show issues when running the system without the 3080 as well as with?

Its up to you, i personally love zotac gpu there 5 year warranty is a big plus but i guess you wasnt expecting to be using it this early. :D

Its a shame you can't test it in a friends pc.

Lets us know hiw you get on.

ive not registered it yet haha ive not had it long enough to register it before it started playing up:S and hoping i can just deal with overclockers direct. i shall give them a call in the morning. i filled out a online return form but waiting on a RMA number i think it was called.

@Brian Lovegrove

Have you made sure you are on the latest motherboard BIOS , same with the gpu latest V-BIOS and monitors on latest firmware ? Also cables used are fine and in spec ? Always use cables that came with the monitor to rule out out of spec cables. Also latest Nvidia drivers are known to have some issues too have you tried one driver back as a test or are you on old drivers and may need to update them ?

ok so i updated motherboard bios earlier yes. i dont belive ive touch the GPU bios and not really sure where i would start on that at the minute. all cables are fine and ones that either came with the monitors or high quality verions of (the hdmi cable i use) the dp cable i use is rated 4k uhd. i believe as far as drivers its only run on the latest drivers. i installed them after first fitting the card. then after it played up earlier i ran ddu, removed all nvida drivers etc and restarted. then downloaded the latest driver direct from geforce experience so i may install it again in the morning and roll back the driver

Can you take a screen shot of GPU-Z or show what bios version the card is running ?

GPU-Z can be downloaded from here

my current bios etc

just to confirm mine is the Zotac GeForce RTX 3080 AMP HOLO LHR 10GB GDDR6X PCI-Express Graphics Card

im not allowed to post any more so have had to edit this with further responses. i just underclocked the card a little and loaded up apex as thats what caused the issue earlier. was ok in menu soon as it goes to load into a game screens went black altho this time with a error about 'device hung' but only 1 monitor (the one connected with dp) came back. i think i shall remove the card and send it back when i get the RMA

further edit>
If you've only just received the card then send it back to the retailer and ask for a straight swap as going with an RMA may take a while.

I received it tuesday morning. had it installed within a few hours and running less then a day before faulting. I shall call overclockers in the morning and arrange sending it back. Item looks out of stock on the website now tho so doubt ill get a replacement any time soon :(

Further edit. wont let me post any more then 15 comments in 24 hours so having to edit this and hope you guys see.

have checked my cables and all within spec. have tried using all the dp ports at the back of the card incase one was faulty and all crash within half hour. checked and replaced all pcie cables etc from the psu (corsair tx850m) and still crashes. ccu all nvidia drivers and fresh install and still crashes.

the old 2070 super has been installed all day today baring a hours testing this morn on the 3080 and has been running fine all day. no issues at all. i ran benchmarks with the 70 also to draw as much power to it as possible to partially stress test the psu and no issues at all so having checked all cables in my system, the psu, the drivers, motherboard bios, updated all drivers (and used previous drivers on the 3080 incase new drivers had a issue) the problem i think is with the card. sent original vid of the flickering and such to my very knowledgeable friend also who says in his opinion it looks like a bad part on the board or bad pathing/traces. all that being said i dont like having forked out £1200 for something labelled as a 'enginerring sample' anyway as it states in benchmark. £1200 for a card should not be a 'sample' in my opinion.

You maybe able to swap it for a different model that's in stock if you don't want to wait on the RMA but yeah give them a call and I'm sure they will go through the options for you.

yeah had a convo with them earlier they have zero stock in so arranged the RMA and they said zotac themselves might be able to sort one faster then they could.

How much did you pay for the 3080 holo ? i would guess around £1300, they have 5 Gigabytes in stock currently so would you not just prefer an exchange like Sean473 says or pay a little more towards a 3080ti for £1500.

You may be waiting a long time for a replacement that is all.
yeah the first time ive ever had to return anything so wasnt to sure on the process. seeing as it is so new i may call them tomorrow again and discuss a swap or now ive been provided with a RMA number is it to late to change process?

oh and the card was £1200

I would call them tomorrow and ask it you can do a swap i don't think it's to late but there is no harm in asking.

ok i shall do. fingers crossed cause for so much if i can get a refund i could at least look elsewhere and not wait (waited a year to get one as it and been steadily upgrading my system to accommodate the beast)so if i can get a replacement or other version of the 3080 delivered from them fast it would be greatly appreciated. at the time or writing this its been 4 days since the order and 3 days since i received the card itself so hopefully well within return time :)

If you have no look then yes i would request a refund as your still within the 14 days.

well i called them and had a word, talked through the issues and stuff and all ive done to make sure the issue isnt something else. they arranged for it to be picked up from my address which was nice. They told me they would send out a replacement as they had a few in stock (im guessing this is stock not available online as i couldn't see any in stock online) so hopefully in a day or so ill have another one and hopefully with no issues....

Good news then and yes i thought they would hold a few back in case of such situations.

Fingers crossed.

yeah if not i guess ill just rip my system apart and rebuild from the ground up haha. A massive thank you tho to yourself and ll others on the thread who gave advice or helped in anyway.I shall keep you's ionfomred as to weather the new card fixed the issue or not. Have a great day all and once again a massive thank you to you all.
