Issues after getting a 390

Hi All,

Long time lurker on the forums. Just got myself an AMD 390, had a few issues getting to work, due to dated motherboard BIOS and Windows driver installs etc.

But once those issues were ironed out, I proceeded to test the card with a little bit of light gaming. Getting great FPS in all I've thrown at it, but not really had a good session until last night. Where I've hit an issue, in that after about 10-15mins of playing any game my PC will just power off (not shutdown) and restart itself after 5 seconds. No errors, event viewer entries, disk checks nothing, behaves like I've just powered it on.

Temps on GPU reach about 75c, not noted the CPU temps, but not had any issues with it.

I'm thinking power supply here, but surely a Xclio 550w is enough for a single gpu setup?

Intel 2500k (no overclock)
16GB DDR3
Gigabyte GA-Z68-XP-UD4
Xclio 550w
2 SSD's
ASUS Xonar DX2

Any help, suggestions appreciated.

I learnt not to buy a cheap psu the hard way. I bought a 20 quid 750 watt model for a Phenom II build, Then I bought an Asus DCUII 560ti. Then I went to make a cuppa when I came back the pc was off and a dodgy smell lingered. The psu had gone and taken the gpu with it, The smell was unconnected so we won't get into that except to say the morale of the story is don't trust a cheap gpu or a cheap tin of beans.

Thanks for the replies, it was a hand-me-down from an old system, so I'd guessed it would be the case.

What are the suggestions for a replacement?

The EVGA Supernova GS 550W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply would be my pick! (though OcUK pricing it a tat high at the moment).

Or go for what whyscotty recommended above.

Currently eyeing up the 650w Evga as I'd like a bit of headroom for when I go back to overclocking after this little fiasco.

Thanks for the advice guys.
