Apparently a parcel I have been expecting has been stuck on the van for two days with delivery given as the 5th of July. Since it is nearly impossible to speak to anybody in person at these depots I contacted the retailer to get them to chase things up only to be told they are having the same problem in getting the depot to respond. Hermes head office are having the same problem as they have attempted to contact the depot without much success. Are Hermes usually this inept/ bad?

When things go wrong I think yes, there is a reason why they are one of the cheapest couriers out, saying that I've never had any issues with them but they do like to do the ol' dump n' run when they deliver.

As long it is out for delivery it is the retailers responsibility. I would keep badgering them either with phone calls or through the medium of badgers until you get your parcel.

Whenever a parcel is delivered by Yodel I tend to brace myself for the worst. :(

I tend to give the benefit of doubt, sadly every occasion is usually mangled or late. I recently purchased an item which never arrived. Apparently the courier tried (unsuccessfully) to deliver three times and during these three occasions never left a card.

When the parcel did eventually materialise, it looked like the depot had enjoyed a repeated 5-aside match. I know in the grand scheme of things, the world wont end, it's just the customer service principal and a ball-ache to return.

Hmm. Still not received. Tracking says "there has been a delay" and the retailer tells me Hermes will try to deliver again, despite the fact the item never left the van?

Not just Hermes or Yodel, I had this problem with Parcel Force. Apparently I was at the end of the delivery round and the driver kept running out of time and returning to the depot.

I had a great one recently. Item is pushed through the letterbox. As it needs a signature and no one was in they scrawled my name. They forgot that I get a link to view the signature of who signed for item.

Unless I shared my letterbox this would actually be a good thing. I'd rather it just be put through the letterbox if it fits then have to arrange a re-delivery.

Having to deal with a classic at the minute. Have had a note through the door with failed delivery, contacted the courier with the number and they say that can't see who has sent it just thay it has been retuened and to check with the retailer. Problem is...it wasn't a retailer. It was a gift and it hasn't been returned.

Surely you just need to ask me whoever sent it to chase the courier then?

For balance I ordered something from Maplins on line at 4.00 PM yesterday and it arrived at 9.30 AM this morning. I was surprised a fairly big outfit like Maplins use Hermes, but I can't complain at that. I did wait ten days for another Hermes delivery, a few months ago from a private seller, the old chap delivering it in a private car looked so worn out when he finally got it here that I made him a cup of tea! The parcel had sat in their system for eight days. But the My Hermes drivers make sod all and out here in the sticks battle to find places on roads with no names and houses with just names (and often no name board on the gates...).
