Hey there,

Got a problem with my TV setup and im not sure whats causing the problem.

My TV setup-
Amplifier - Yamaha HTR-2064
TV- LG 32LV355T
Blu Ray -Toshiba BDX2100
PS3- 160GB Slim model.

When watching Netflix through the PS3 Or just watching a regular Blu-Ray /DVD movie using my Blu ray player the signal cuts out..screen goes black for a couple of seconds then carry's on as normal...just happens random.

It does it maybe one of twice every time i use ut,The screen goes black but the movie is still playing in the background.

I'm not sure if its a problem with my TV or the AMP.

Whats weird though,When playing games on the PS3 this issue does not happen,Only seem to be when watching movies.

What you guys think?

I had this issue, and it was driving me absolutely mental - I won't bore you to death with the endless frustrating hours I spent trying to get to the bottom of it, but to cut a long story short, the fridge/freezer turned out to be the culprit... the 1-2 second blackouts were happening every time the thermostat kicked in. No idea if it was voltage spikes, RF interference or the Fridge Fairy to blame, but after I plugged the TV into one of those surge/interference protector thingies, all was well.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the same in your case, especially if games seem to be unaffected, but you might want to cast a beady eye at any other appliances on your ring main. :)

Thanks for replying,Thats interesting ,The freezer is in the Garage underneath the room the setup is in so...could possibly be what you said,I just have it all connected to a regular 4 socket extension cable so il give one of those Surge protected ones a try.

I have something similar, but it's a cheap HDMI cable. Poor construction keeps making the signal cut out.

They are cheap cables,2M for around £2.99 or something...cant remember.

I might put a wanted in the FS section to see if any one has any decent "branded" quality ones.

Don't go spending an arm and a leg for a "branded" HDMI cable - if a cable is of such poor quality that it simply doesn't work properly, that's one thing, but once you get to the point where the cable can deliver an uncorrupted signal along the required length, they're all exactly the same.

I'm a bit surprised that an HDMI cable issue would manifest as intermittent blackouts - whenever I've used a cheap cable which wasn't up to the job, either it wouldn't work at all or I'd get a broken-up picture and/or green flashes and sparkles, which were there constantly rather than intermittently. Furthermore, I've never had trouble with even very cheap cables over short runs (up to 2m), it's the longer cables which can be problematic and worth spending a little extra in my experience.

Having said that, I wouldn't rule the cable out entirely as a cause, and it won't cost you much to confirm it one way or another, provided you don't get taken in by some of the more extravagant marketing hype of course. :)
