Reminds me of that nice old tale about how Redcoats became known as redcoats.
The officers in her majesty's army were always known as redcoats, because of the long red coats they wore. This was so that if they were shot in battle, the blood wouldn't be seen by their soldiers.
Which is why French officers wear brown trousers.
