Some of you will remember me moaning about my job, which takes far too much of my time.

Well, now I am here to boast! I am leaving it!

This time next year, I will be somewhere in central asia, my wife and I have just planned the following trip, and we are going to Japan by train!

London-Amsterdam
Amsterdam-Moscow
Moscow-Bejing (via Mongolia)
Bejing-Shanghai
Shanghai-Kobe

We then will be working at an organic farm in Japan for a number of months as well as travelling about.

On the way home, the route is:

Japan-Korea
Korea-Tibet
Tibet-The Stans
Iran

Home.

I am bursting with excitement, even though its ages away!

Oh yes. Jealous. Tibet will be amazing - remember how violently oppressive the regime is though. You will be kept away from normal Tibetans, if you can try to meet some away from your guides.

Could you tell me a little about the farm thing? I plan to go to Japan after I graduate, need ideas for work. Thanks

You'll have to post some photographs. Will most of the trains you get be MU or loco hauled? I still maintain my assertion that there should be a rail forum on OCUK, after all the Motors forum is dedicated to cars......

My best mate left here just yesterday to go to china by train from moscow (trans-siberia) and to travel around asia for the next two years. He's taking pretty much the same route as you except being the seasoned traveller and cheap skate he is, he's going 3rd class all the way and taking no planes and has possibly winged his way onto a cargo ship for some of the journey :p

I wish him the best of luck as he tries to avoid having to eat raw eggs with friendly russians (again).

I'd love to take a trip like that, but with different destinations ( may sound stupid but I'm afraid to go through countries like Mongolia, parts of Russia, China ( commies ?), Iran ( they burned our flags after an anti islam movie made by someone here, they hate the Dutch) and some others) but still, the same idea, just different countries.
