Saint Andrew, as we all know, is the patron saint of Scotland. But did you know he is also the patron saint of Army Rangers? No? A comprehensive summary of his patronage follows...

Scotland, Russia, Sicily, Greece, Romania, Amalfi, Luqa (Malta) and Prussia; Army Rangers, mariners, fishermen, fishmongers, rope-makers, singers and performers, Birmingham City FC, cheese

Like all the best Saints, Andrew was nailed to a cross and left to die. He was nailed to an X-shaped cross because he deemed himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Jesus. Well Andrew, it is I who is not worthy, because your humbleness gave Scotland a cool looking flag to wave around at the football.

I'm eating some fish today to celebrate and maybe some other typical Scottish pastimes like getting drunk, having a heart attack, harbouring a grudge and beating my spouse.

Happy Saint Andrews day everyone :)

Woo, it's my Saint Day!
It's a pity it's not celebrated that much, i'll see what i can cook up for tonight in my little corner of Aberdeen, Scotland should party!

/Incidentally, a very interesting post, Tru. Thumbs up :)

Thought i'd try and start a discussion about it.

Got to say there's two main catogrys of saints. Saints is just some one who has faith and has done something on earth as a sacrifice for there faith.

Divine Worship is properly reserved only for God (latria) and never to the Saints. In Roman Catholic theology, since God is the God of the Living, then it follows that the saints are alive in Heaven. As "special friends of God" they can be asked to intercede or pray for those still on earth

Where Roman Catholic Saints are something much much more. The roman catholic saints go against the teachings of the bible.

Shocking effort, Scots, as an Englishman living up here, I've already had to remind 3 of you natives about it :p

Alas, I have no money to go out and drink :( I'm sure I'll make up for it some other time..

does anyone care about these days?

It's all a lot of ******** <-had to count the stars there to make sure I had enough stars to spell ********

Not sure if it's a sweary but I hate those 72 hour bans that only I seem to get for not fully starring out a sweary.
