Just had a client order £275 of prints from a session I did with them a couple of weeks ago !

They are friends of friends so that made it all a lot easier but I am well chuffed to have made some money our of my photography....

Goes straight into my 5d2 fund.

Nice one, i'm nowhere near the level I could ask any money for doing work for people, either in quality or confidence. Have done a few for friends and told them what to expect but must be a very nice feeling to be rewarded for your work and make someone happy.

Too right - their reaction when I gave them a viewing was "wow" which was lovely. Their expectations were that a mate-of-a-mate was trying to make a bit of money from his hobby. When they saw the results they were impressed.

The mum even said after the shoot that she normally hates photos of herself and then went and ordered 2 12x8 prints of her with her kids !

Well done - good to see it paying off.

Were they really special photos in your opinion, or just special to the people involved?

I was pleased with them although the ones ordered were not necessarily the ones that I thought were the best images. One of the ones she ordered is this one (I checked if I could use them online):

You can see other shots I have done on my website if you are curious....

I just visited your site, and before I got to the images I read the intro. Could I be really cheeky, and suggest on the 3rd paragraph you change the last word to 'moment' instead of instant, which is repeated from earlier, and the second stop to 'capture' for the same reason? Sorry - I do a lot of copy-writing and these things jump out at me!

That's not cheeky - it's helpful !

Thanks (and changed)

That's fantastic, well done! There are some really great kids captures on your website. I've recently been on a short photography course (there is a lot to work on!) and the portrait week was my favourite session. The tutor said that half of the battle when working with kids is to make sure they are having fun so you can capture them when they are most relaxed and that's what i like so much about your shots, they are really natural :)

Just out of interest, what camera do you use?

Canon 40D and most of the shots on my portfolio are taken with a 24-70L. I must admit you are spot on about the kids having fun, since having two of my own I do find it a lot easier to relate to kids and am a lot more confident with them.

I've got a Canon 450D atm and am very much still learning but i really enjoy portrait work. I'm sure your 5DMk2 fund will be growing very quickly now :)

I hope so - I'm going to contact local toddler groups etc and try to get in on some of their sessions give out loads of flyers and see where this goes.

I appreciate everybody's feedback - thanks.

I'm using a lastolite hilite background with 3 lencarta studio flash heads (2 on the hilite and one as a subject light) with a 1.2m softbox for the main lighting.

The first one is the most difficult. After that it should get easier, with word of month, it can even snowball.

1 client recommend you to 2, and before you know it, you'll be thinking doing it full time!!! (hopefully)

Nice one, lovely shots as well. I can't wait until my daughter is a bit older so I can try more "advanced" shots. At the moment even if I just try off camera flash she's off to investigate, and does she pay any notice to what I say? Does she heck! :)

I tend to get printing done by an external company as it works out far simpler and cost effective for the small volumes I am printing at the moment.
