IT Technical Interview over Skype - UPDATE post 48! I GOT IT!!!

Got one in 4 hrs. Trying to revise but have no motivation. It's for a Desktop Analyst role,

I know he's going to ask me some basic server 2010 stuff, maybe some exchange and AD, probably some networking stuff. But there's a mountain of information to go through and not much time left.

Any advice? :p

People get interviewed over skype?

Sit with just a shirt on. That be very rock and roll.

More importantly, Good luck!

If its for desktop analyst concentrate on desktops.. not servers.
Know the common things that **** up on an end user pc and how to fix them.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
gpupdate /force

And anything you don't know, rather than say you don't know, say what you would do to figure it out... It's ok to say you would google something! You'd be amazed how many people don't mention it and it's something we all need to do on a daily basis.

I would be completely on my own in the office with no escalation point in the mornings as i would be the only IT guy in the UK until the US wakes up at 2pm our time. So i would need some basic Server and Networking troubleshooting skills,

Server 2010?

hope he meant exchange 2010 :D

if not, its server 2008, 2008 r2 or more recently server 2012.

was at an interview recently for 1st/2nd line support tech, only tech question i got where.

corrupt profile on system what wuld you do

corrupt AD profile what would you do

lost connection to share what would you do.

Nailed them all apparantly.

Most of interview will probably be questions regarding what you have on cv then a short period will just be a few tech questions.

just remember not to rush the answer. even if you have to take a minute to think, best to think and get it right that rush and get it wrong.

You mention you have people in america, so its obviously a large company.

Change control.. and escalation and key things they will want to hear.

You would not go willy nilly rebooting a server on a wim.. you would escalate all serious issues to someone to get approval for a reboot or big change.

Also research the company try and find what there about and how they work

also look at the actual job lsiting find what they said they wanted from a person and try and link what they wanted in an employee back to yourself within the interview.

Why confused, a company who branch out to remote offices in other places in the world is not going to have 10's-100's employees.. more likely 1000's, and with that comes large infrastructure, which will have a lot of servers.

OP, who many employees does this company have?
