It was only a matter of time; Virgin Media start packet shaping

I call that false advertising tbh. Therefore, yes I would moan.

I'd agree with you 100% if they (or any other residential ISP) said you will get full speed 100% of the time but they don't.

I'm for the shaping, I am fed up with speeds fluctuating when people get home from school/work to start their torrents - at least this way they will spread the downloads like the rest of us.

the problem I see with torrents is there is no limit on uploads. I wonder how much of a stress all these people running p2p put on the network.

I'll also be glad when it kicks in my area as when it gets to peak times it crawls and I'm lucky to download at 1-2 meg speeds on a 10 meg line.

We be moving soon to a area that has vm, adsl 5.5 meg the checkers say and also can get sky broadband via LLU, its just the speeds with the bt route that would annoy me, i am still prefering going on vm atm.

I don't see a problem with this personally. Ok they maybe be throttling the heaviest downloaders back for a few hours but the service is still unlimited and offers the best speeds and reliability of any ISP. Just schedule your downloads for off-peak hours.

As I said it wouldnt bother me if the offerd another level of service for those of us who want to pay.

but instead they assume well all be happy with this. to be honest theres no point in moaning, but I fired off a letter of disgust with a large list of counter signatures.
