perfect chicane vs short cut, chicane is faster. When you screw up the chicane go deep have to turn tighter and go slower to achieve the tighter turn, then the short cut becomes faster. You're comparing apples and pears, not apples and apples.
In both situations and in Canada these were incredibly minor lock ups, he was aimed at the corner that time and could easily have made the chicane on each occasion. But each time the chicane was compromised, he would have lost time and three times has taken the same action actively chosen to not take a corner he could easily have taken each time. It's cheating, each deserved a penalty and each time he was under pressure from the guy behind being that much faster.

I didn't know if there has been any talk about if there is any punishment after certain amounts of cutting.
Point is that he only lost 1.2sec early on by cutting the chicane the first time, if he'd tried to make the chicane having made a mistake he'd have lost 3-4secs and probably 2 positions on the following straight.
