I'm taking a lady friend out to dinner on Thursday and we both have our hearts set on Italian. Any of you dark horses know any decent Italian places in London that won't rape my wallet? :p

Ooooh me me me!

L'ulivo in Leicester Square (near the big odeon and Yates's Bar) is amazing!
I've been twice with my lovely other half and also been with a big group of friends for a birthday party. Every time I've not had a single complaint to make (and I'm a fussy lady!). Service is excellent and the food is delicious :)

If you end up going there you must make sure your woman tries out the chocolate dessert (name of it escapes me) that is a ball shape and has ice cream centre - it's orgasmic!

:D

EDIT: Hmph, beaten. I didn't even think you'd remember the name of it damnit!

Casale Franco in Islington is superb

Casale Franco 134-137 Upper St, Islington, London, N1 1QP Tel: 020 7226 8994

Very difficult to book as they tend not too!!....but they are always busy and there is a great atmosphere there....and the food is out of this world!!

Best time to turn up is around 9-9.30pm, you may have to wait for a while, but it is definately worth it :)

;)

And just to add a couple, there's Scuzi's (and not as in the personal restaurant of our resident air traffic controller), in Canary Wharf, which I have heard good things about, and also a place I've always wanted to try, the Italian Kitchen on New Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road, it looks really good.

I dont know the name of the place but just down the road from the Kensington Olympia there is a little family run Italian place. The food was amazing and all homemade! If its still there and run by the same people I would definetly recommend it. Run by an older Italian couple, the food is amazing and not too bad on the pocket!

So why dont you take me then  :D

Because they don't do steak. :p

Oh, and also I know that Strada restaurants are fast becoming common as muck, (they're everywhere!), they still make lovely food, and the restaurants have a nice atmosphere too. :)

Concur heartily - they might be predictable, but they are tasty and reliable. Pleasant staff, very good pizzas and pastas and excellent desserts. Recommended indeed.
